If we were running those rules at say the VONATS... I feel boosted 17.5 would 100% be just as fast as 13.5. I personally think 13.5 vintage truck would be a killer class!
Yeah, I plan to run a 10T with 13.5 at this race in March!
"the" 10T?
Haha!!
Actually, for the race at Hoosier I am going to try a 10T I recently bought from Dirk Anderson - he built it with a 13.5 (and Jconcepts slicks!)!

Here is the 10T I mentioned above:
-Hobbywing 13.5
-ProTek servo
- 12mm shocks
- Moto-Obscura brass weight sandwiched behind the front bumper
- built in short wheelbase, with A&L steering rack:

By The Way, what is INS14 ??
Indoor National Series is a pro-level national series sponsored by JConcepts. It is in its 14th year.

https://jconcepts.net/indoor-national-series

I went to the local round as a spectator last year. The pros are really phenomenal drivers. It is too bad that modern 1/10 is largely decided in qualifying. I'd love to see some side by side racing with these guys.

I finally got around to reading the rules. Is the heritage class requiring RC10 to run 6 gear just date driven by the built before 1990? I know it's all bench racing but seems a 6 gear RC10 is a step or two behind a new JJ Ultima kit or Triumph. Big bore threaded shocks, slipper, updated metal gearbox and on. Triumph feels a whole generation or two ahead of a 6 gear RC10.

The soon to be released 87 spec Ultima is basically what a lot of us built for years to modernize and will fit the heritage class as well. Functionally it's a JJ with classic chassis architecture and fits the heritage class too.

Seems heritage class would differentiate itself better by at least being a silver can handout class. I don't think most mere mortal dudes notice a whole lot of difference in times between 21.5T and 17.5T with these buggies.

I am aware of my limits and many here will wipe the track with me using a 6 gear against the most modern of Ultimas. So more just a general, huh, that's an interesting thing to think about.

In summary, Kyosho > AE ;-)

Heritage does not allow big bore shocks, "Classic" does.

I suspect that the intent of the 6 gear rule is to give the 6 gear cars a place to race separate from the Stealth cars. Otherwise, a lot of really cool old buggies that everyone wants to see racing might be left on the shelf. Instead of being forced to choose one or the other, a guy could race 1 of each. :D

It does seem that the Ultima stacks up well.

I sort of think of the shocks that come with the JJ or world spec Ultima as big bore though I get they are technically not. Certainly a modern, smooth threaded shocks at least. But regardless. Your idea is a good one, but unintended consequences right. In an attempt to separate RC10's you create another problem for them.

My lap times barely change regardless of transmission, shocks, motor or anything. I go about as fast as I go a few times a year.

Heritage to me is the "let's try to keep it vintage in spirit and speed" class. But I get it, hard to draw up rules for that. Always holes to be exploited for the person there to win.

The real reality in these vintage events, a lot of people are regular racers and run their vintage regularly. They have the advantage no matter what over the guy who loads up car and show up once or twice for an event like this.

I have never raced a Kyosho of any sort - but I am making plans for a 21.5 Ultima for the very reasons you point out.

Speaking of the Ultima, Joel Johnson confirmed that he will attend. I didn't see the whole video, but I gather there is going to be a separate class for pro drivers from BITD and he will be in it. In the comments, "Kyle Reed" suggested he may be there as well, hopefully that is really him. The hosts kept referring to this as the first of many announcements in the lead up to the race.

You can find it on the Hooser Hobbyplex FB group.

There is going to be a Legends class for those guys. But there are old pros like Brian Dunbar and Chris Doseck that race there weekly. So I would assume they'll be racing in other classes, too, and I'm sure others will also. Maybe with modern cars. Unfortunately, it's not a vintage only event.

I needed a couple things so I ran over to Hoosier today. If anybody in interested in knowing this.. The go to tire that most racers are running there is the JConcepts Smoothie 2 in Silver Compound. I have not 100% decided If I will run. I currently will need to build something to run if I do because it is the complete opposite type of track I normally run on.

Yep, JConcepts Smoothie 2, silver, SXT dope

I really want to go to the event, but my desire to race is all but extinguished. Modern tracks just aren't for me. The track is huge. The current layout has 20 or 21 jumps  That is 21 good chances per lap to bend the chassis on my Cougar. The backstretch is raised. All I can see is the wing and a little smattering of green above the pipe. So I literally crash just trying to go straight.

I am not criticizing the track. It has to be among the best dirt tracks in the country. But I can't in good conscious put my car on the track when anyone else is running. I'm that bad. I go on practice days and only run by myself.

That will be an interesting balancing act. That is clearly a premiere modern facility and the modern cars there that weekend can handle the typical 21 jump track. They need to find some middle ground that my 6 gear RC10 being wheeled one handed by me because my other hand is adjusting my glasses trying to see the back straight can handle

I initially read this as 6 gear RC10 being wheelied one handed
Frankensteined RC10T3 / Franky Jr RC10GT-e (x2) / A+ stamp / Toy Story RC / Graphite replica / B1.5 BFG 5LTi / Clonewald / Hyper Hornet

The locals are running silver compound JConcepts Smoothie 2 slicks with foam (front p/n 4018-06; rear p/n 4017-06) and using SXT. I am sure other brands will work, too, but they just ran INS14, so there is a lot of JConcepts love in the air

Before tonight, I was thinking that someone out there is probably as bad a driver as I am, so, with practice and luck, I might not be guaranteed last place finishes. After tonight, though, those hopes are dashed. My new goal is to not injure any bystanders. :D
Thanks for the reconnaissance!
I would say the vintage classes are not as fast/precise as the modern/club races - remember a lot of us have seen the track before, and some of us (at least myself) drive somewhat carefully so as not to break too many vintage parts! :)
