Re: ** Build of the Month Contest - October 2024 ** - Winner - TheDiamondOne
I'm in
My entry is the Marui Racing Buggy, aka Hunter prototype (at very least, this is the inspiration, from a single picture)

Again, this is relying a lot on 3D printed parts :
At the very exception of the wheels (orginals from a Marui Galaxy) and rear suspension links, all plastic parts are 3D printed (Nylon PA12 MJF for black parts, Nylon PA12 SLS for the blueish grey (dyed at home), TPU for the wing, Driver figure is resin printed from The Optima House. The bodyshell was vacformed from a mold 3D printed. Gear set is a mix of Nylon PA12 MJF for the diff and SLM stainless Steel for the idle gear. The motor is a Tamiya 380 Sport Tuned (that was required to enter in the motor cover with the air scoop
)
The build and the work around this car is described in detail in a massive thread, just like for my other cars, but this thread is particularly long, so I put the link where the actual work starts in CAD https://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?p=560440#p560440...
Good luck everyone!

Gonna take you back to an very important car in my rc history. 1989. This was my ultima that was modified as much as my budget for a 16 year old could afford mowing lawns (which I still do to this day for a living). Our local track converted to dirt oval. It was a very loamy heavily watered soil so these tall spiked tires were important to compete. The car is as close as my brother and I could duplicate, except for the addition of the Track Master belt drive tranny that I always wanted. Thanks Jeff Malar for making the the reproduction fiberglass parts to make it possible.

Sassy Chassis Tamiya King Cab
According to the nice woman I purchased it from, it was built in the 1990s by her husband, driven for years, passed down to their daughter, driven some more, then listed on Offerup and scooped up by me. It is by far the most upgraded (and probably valuable) RC I own. It has a Sassy Chassis Tub, Sassy Chassis Steering, APM Custom Hobbies front bumper, APM rear chassis plate, Kyosho Gold Shocks, Tamiya Avante differential, vintage Tekin ESC, and Futaba radio system. It rolls on vintage Proline Striker II tires with rare pink HPI Super Star wheels. And, let's not forget the searingly 90's body. Oh, and its scarily fast for what it is. I cannot express how absolutely cool this thing is. I can finally check a King Cab off of my RC grail list.

RC10B1.5 resto mod.
The buggy that was meant to be but never happened and would have complimented the T2 nicely. This one started as a used, stripped down, left for dead T2 sport chassis from ebay that I picked up with the intention of making a modern "woin" racer. Highlights are a shortened and cut down chassis, long dynotech klein arms, B4 bearing front wheels and modern hex rears, factory works shock towers (thanks Jeff!), jconcepts ball bearing steering and custom fitted B2 body, B4 top shaft with V2 slipper, and reedy brushless/lipo power to kick everything up a notch.

This car started in pretty bad shape and in need of a lot of TLC.
My first thoughts were “Going to try and not spend stupid money rebuilding” but it turned into a 3½ year project.
My build thread tells all the details.
One of the contributors to the thread had said “u need to smell watchu shovel''n”, so true but that didn’t stop me.
Yet another said ” leave the body clear so folks can appreciate all that amazing anno work” and I took that to heart with translucent paint on this car.
Really happy with how it all came together and thanks to all for the helpful guidance and encouragement!
Build thread with lots of pictures https://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?t=46027
These are fairly large pics so right click, click on "open link in new tab" then click on the new file in the upper address bar.

Entering my Kyosho Pro-XRT stadium truck.
Picked this up early 2021 and spent a little over a year collecting needed parts before starting the build process. Finished the build and installed electronics a couple years back, and just recently finished the body which is a TBG repro with MCI decals. Truck has Futaba R142JE receiver, Novak 610-RV esc, Futaba servo and the glorious Kyosho Le Mans 240S brushed motor. Definitely one of my favorites and certainly one of the best looking stadium trucks ever made.

This is one of those months where I want to be able to have multiple votes. The front suspension on that Marui Hunter is very cool. Arrgh! So many good options!

Are the shocks super stiff to prevent the tires from rubbing the body? Those are some really clean, nice fitting wheel cutouts. BITD my Turbo Optima ran a used Skoal Bandit body from a 10L pan car and I had to run the shocks with a lot of preload or I'd get a lot of tire rubbing. I didn't want to cut up the body for all the suspension travel clearance it needed. It's a really excellent build, I just have these images in my head of those awesome spikes ripping away at Richard Petty's bodywork.TheDiamondOne wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 11:27 am Gonna take you back to an very important car in my rc history. 1989. The body is cut super close for a clean look on the shelf, back in the day they were cut out a lot more to clear the tires.

Richard 'The King' Petty takes one more career win, with an off-roader! Congrats! It's a very unique build
