MX-4 Forever 008 Arrived! Early Unboxing from Japan

Post by TokyoProf »

Doorbell rings and Japanese delivery man with a big box arrives. I have no idea what it is...until I see the G Force envelope within. The long awaited MX-4 Forever by Papa and Masami arrived early! Here is my unboxing of 008. This is the luckiest number in Chinese culture because “Ba” sounds similar to the word “fa”, which means to make fortune. I'll take that lol. Sure cost me a fortune. I think Papa can retire well in some warm tropical country with the 100 that were sold worldwide.

This is the initial unboxing of a unique prototype car that because of unique circumstances never had the chance to race at the IFMAR worlds in the early 2000s. This is the Yokomo car that could have been, but never was, and is forever here bridging the past and future...something like that. I really enjoyed the whole experience unboxing this amazing buggy. Kid in a candy store. The personal touch was cool. The traditional box is neat. The fact that this was built and tuned by the all-time RC racing engineering legend himself is next level. I am closer to ending my RC collecting habit with this one. It was a challenge taking photos with a small person hanging around my home but here you go!

Just WOW!

What an amazing piece of RC history.

You have to shed more light on the story of this car!

Correct, I'm bad at running any of my cars actually. The pics in the thread above (thanks for the link!) do show Masaaki Hirosaka building them individually by hand. His two sons were involved with other aspects of the buggy production like tire prep and body painting. I have to believe its all true. However, the perfect English emails I got in response to my purchase signed off by Masaaki himself had me thinking if he was really that fluent in English. Maybe the G Force team helped out in that department :).

I wish I could have afforded to get one.

I did ask Masami about parts when these were first announced and I think they are going to be selling spare parts and such for those brave enough to run them.

Personally I wish I could get a hold of the car in kit form for a lower price, for running, but doubt that would ever happen.
Consistency is the key I keep misplacing.

The manual does have a parts page on the back which I imagine would be limited. I think this whole project is a unique first to our RC industry--luxury segment, attention to detail product, and personal touch from the designer. It makes sense for G Force to capture the "spirit" of this model with a less blingy and more affordable variant. It would be an interesting challenge to make this complex model cost-effective while keeping the design cues intact.
