the new Tamiya Pajero is just terrible... so I did this

Post by GoMachV »

Tamia's new Tamiya Pajero is a real weird animal. They left the lift kit on it, assumingly because it's the only place to put a moden battery, and left the gearing for a monster truck intact but they put smaller tires on it. While I did not run it around in stock form because I couldn't bring myself to building it that way, it has to be a real turd.

What I did instead is grab the manual for the original Pajero and built it without the lift kit, the upgraded steering, the new oil shocks, the motor adapter to run the tiny monster truck pinion gear, and anything else that was out of place. I did have to source a couple of things, having a lot of grasshopper parts around would help that out. I only purchased one vintage part which was the wheelie bar. It really wasn't needed because the one on the new Pajero seem to be fine but I wanted it to look a little more original. Note pic shows the modern Pajero wheelie bar installed. I did need to print a couple spring cup extensions for the front and run shafts off a FX10 up front since Tamiya changed the chassis from the original but it worked out perfectly. I also had to source an 18 tooth pinion gear. The tires and wheels are of course off of the Subaru brat just like from the original. I did put a mechanical speed control in it because I just love those things. Anyway... This is my take on it. It should look a lot better once I get the decals put on. I should probably order those.

I doubt anyone has read this far, but if you did and have an old school Tamiya 3 prong resistor laying around I could definitely use it

Didn't know about the Punky Brewster episode. Watched it just now... that was really good. Her car was awesome looking. Plus, Ralphie was there!

Just watched the clip. Been about 5 years since I watched it. And I'll be ding-danged, there IS Ralphie! Had never noticed Mr. Billingsly there!
Hope you're doin' something fun.

When i first saw the new Pajero, i immediately had the same thoughts of the possibility to build/convert it to the original style.

Do you think the wheels and tires provided with the new pajero, will still fit your car now?

They do, static, but wouldn't be able to turn if the front suspension is compressed at all haha

Oh, so that's what that shelf on the back of my Lunchbox was for, I didn't think this platform needed an more help with doing wheelies and they go and toss a battery back there? LOL

I instantly recognized that as a 'MAX' which I feel is the most well-known manufacturer of amphibious ATVs. I looked it up, and the company is still in business cranking them out!

Thank you for the comparison, if i would ever attempt the same, it's clear new wheels are necessary.
