The instruction just don't mention it (as you seen it fails to mention a lot of things) but that is how you change the wheelbase, same as the buggy, just move the inner mounts to the other set of holes. half shafts being angled is pretty normal.GreenBar0n wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2024 2:36 pmThe new DS Classic doesn't mention having an adjustable wheelbase, anywhere. The only place I can see where the wheelbase could be lengthened, would be the toe-blocks for the rear arms, there is another set of holes:
But then the dogbones for the Stealth would be at an angle. Looks like the Classic was never intended to have an adjustable wheelbase.
Luckily the HPI body is really close in wb, will need to trim some to clear the tires, but not much.

Re: RC10 DS Classic - Build
That may help someone interested in lengthening the wb, the 261mm provided wb in the manual is what I need, but I was wondering out loud, why the DS body doesn't have the rear wheel well cut line molded in it.

Have only PS-5 until tomorrow, PS-21 on the way. Going to spray the black layer now.

The inner suspension mounts are one adjustment and the spacer at the hub carrier also allows adjustment.GreenBar0n wrote:The only place I can see where the wheelbase could be lengthened, would be the toe-blocks for the rear arms, there is another set of holes
The rear wheel wells were not marked on a lot of on road bodies to allow for wheelbase adjustment.

Re: RC10 DS Classic - Build
I'm fine with the 261mm wheelbase, which in the manual is the only possibility, I have no desire to lengthen the wb, only shorten it maybe, which is not possible, the instructions have you build the shortest wheelbase possible. I'm good with that.
I'm left to assume this is why the stock DS body has no rear wheel well cut line - still to this day, even though the manual doesn't mention the wheel spacer or the toe block holes, the body is still molded as adjustable.

Re: RC10 DS Classic - Build
Waiting to remove the masking a bit longer. I do have Tamiya Polycarbonate Paint remover, in case I have to clean up any bleed.

I cannot figure out how to cut this wing to make it look like the box. Going to look at the vintage manual to see how this is supposed to happen.

Some rough spots.

Will put the PS-21 Park Green layer on tomorrow when it gets here. You can't really tell how good or bad it is until the overspray film is off.

The 77 movie didn't have the bandit door decal, but being the HPI is a 78 that would technically make a car from the 1980 movie.

Masked.

Painted.

Ran out of PS-5 black doing both bodies today. A PS-5 can will be here tomorrow with the PS-21, I'll spray one more layer on the TA, and then remove the overspray film and masks. Have to paint the TA tail wing, and the DS wing still.

I dunno...the dubbed soundtrack of the rat-motored 55 Chevy from 2 Lane Blacktop/American Graffiti is pretty sweet...

The 55 in American Graffiti was sweet sounding... Two-hour movie and not one carb adjustment... Harrison Ford is a way better mechanic than Dennis Wilson.

They filmed parts of the in movie in Ojai, the town I grew up in. I was only 6 when they were filming but I remember it being a pretty big deal
Here are a couple of shots coming out of the old Rolands Shell station and the bottom on is passing the long since gone O-Hi Frosty

The difference between good and great, is just a little bit more...

Re: RC10 DS Classic - Build
The mail got here a bit too late to paint this evening, but I'll try to get the electronics and steering servo in - or the entire chassis completed.

Really looking forward to finishing the paint on both bodies tomorrow.
Brushless will be a new experience for me, I got the 17.5T combo, nothing extreme or hot running. Will need to figure out temps and pinion size for the motor and those tires.
As I get closer to running this DS, I'm not really comfortable gluing and peeling out on these tires that are irreplaceable, that's one of the very things that makes me not run some of my vintage RC's. I'm starting to think about foam instead, won't look as good, but I don't want to ruin the DS wheels and tires, too awesome.
