Why wouldn't they list the range available, if there are two options? Specs say 261mm.Incredible_Serious wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 10:54 pmDS Setup Sheet mentions Long and Short...GreenBar0n wrote: ↑Tue Jul 23, 2024 10:31 pm Doesn't mention an adjustable wheelbase, or the range possible, like the vintage DS manual does.

I agree, it's an odd thing to re-release.
In addition to parts already released, the DS requires new:
bumper
arms and associated hardware
bulkhead
chassis plate and nose braces
steering rack assembly
shock towers
dog bones
sway bars and associated hardware
body and mounts
wheels and tires
Not exactly low hanging fruit but I reckon AE expects to sell enough DS's to at least break even on their investment.
It would have been much less risky for them to re-re the Team car.

My guess is that the CC, 40th and 10T have met and/or exceeded expectations, therefore making the DS an easier re-release decision. Also, I think making an on-road re-release option available is a smart move for them.
Hopefully the Team car is in the works.

But, for AE's 60th anniversary, maybe they have selected just one vehicle to re-release from each segment of the hobby; i.e. buggy, truck, on-road, etc. If that's true, then the RC10 could be it for buggies. Remember how they got burned on the World's car re-re 10 years ago. The World's followed the Classic the prior year and sales did not meet expectations.
For on-road, I really thought they would go for the '10L. That kit was very popular and it uses mostly plate parts that don't require huge tooling investments.
Anyway, with new tooling to make and everything that goes with producing new parts and kits, these decisions were likely made a couple years ago.

Re: looks like we need a rere associated on road section next!
I think the DS appeals to a far greater audience than the '10L for runability. Pan cars are specifically meant for carpet tracks where the DS can be run anywhere. I thought I've also read something on here about manufactures no longer producing modern pan cars due to the interest no longer being there?
One of the oldest projects I have is a DS. I started it something like 20 years ago by this point. Maybe this will give me the incentive to finish it, but probably not.
I don't know if this will affect the worth of the original stuff but as someone who has DS parts to sell, I hope not.
I don't see why it should. Like the saying goes, it's only original once. There will just be less of a demand for them as now all those who don't care about originality can use either re-release parts or the 3rd party parts that are sure to flood the market.
I'm the happiest about the tires being made again as those are the first things to break down with age on any model.

Re: looks like we need a rere associated on road section next!
There are a lot of nice used 10L available (I have at least 3, which is too many) and they are a less expensive model because of their simplicity. If the tires can stay hooked up they are ballisticly fast, but traction is an issue. They are just like attaching wheels onto your battery and motor, and zooooom!!!! Until spinout, that is. Short outdoor tracks that don't get high top speeds can be some wild races with a 10L.
The DS came around when I was out of RC. I'm interested in having my first NIB one.

The main thing against the DS is that it's not a standard size, and until the wide proline VTA bodies came out not much fit when Bolink disappeared. It is a cool car and running options are far better than a pan car, so I can see it being popular enough, just not 10/10T popular.

They may be 'rare' but they weren't all that pricey compared to rc10(t/b). There was usually 3-4 a month selling on ebay.morrisey0 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 24, 2024 5:55 pm Negative: Unlike the GP RC10 and the 10T, I consider the original DS to actually be "rare." If you own an original DS, you committed to purchasing a great car, or you got one by shear luck. Either way, you have a car that many don't know about, even so-called vintage RC guys. Relatively speaking, everyone knows what a RC10 or RC10T is, but not a DS. The rere breaks down that "club" that OG owners were members of.
The original rear rubber tires and rims ARE rare. That is what is keeping my ds on a shelf.
I sincerely hope with the renewed issues that jconcepts makes some onroad wheels and tires for all rc10's. Maybe some Pargu aluminum rims for the tire size.

Re: looks like we need a rere associated on road section next!
I have just one 10L and I've owned it since it was new from bitd - not sure when it was released. I raced it wherever I could; mostly carpet but some pavement (prepped with sugar water). To be honest, although I'm not interested in parting with it, I'm also really not interested in picking up a second one. There's something about motor-on-axle that makes them less desirable. But, that's just me.Frankentruck wrote: ↑Wed Jul 24, 2024 4:51 pm There are a lot of nice used 10L available (I have at least 3, which is too many) and they are a less expensive model because of their simplicity. I wasn't doing much RC related in 1996 so I completely missed the DS. By chance, did Losi or other AE competitors counter with their version of the DS? Or, did the 2wd, rubber tire, on-road concept just not catch on?

Re: looks like we need a rere associated on road section next!
We used to put street tires on all our buggies because we didn't have very good off-road driving spots. To me, the DS seems like AE acknowledging that was how buggies were getting used and going along with it by making it into a better street conversion.

One could argue that the DS was merely a later homage to Schumacher's 911 turbo SE - 2wd, based off a buggy, gearbox, offroad shocks all round, onroad tyres, saloon body
