Thorp 64 pitch gears - what are the disadvantages

I have a set of rc10 GT Thorp 64p gears.
They seem like a 1:1 drop in for the stock gears.
Is there a disadvantage to them?

I assume that if they can handle a gas engine than a brushless 2-3s lipo setup wouldn't be an issue.
overall would they simply change the sounds of a truck?
Is there actually an advantage?

more efficient. Note that brushless has immensely more torque than a nitro truck, I wouldn't use them with brushless personally.

What Jeff said. While the brushless might be around the same top speed they are much more aggressive at lower RPMs. Remember electric motors produce 100% of their torque at start up which can decimate 64p gears pretty easily, especially if there's jumps involved.

so basically one slip up with a slipper and they are toast.

I'm not sure if I'm stating obvious information you already know but the higher the numerical pitch, the finer the gear teeth. The finer the gear teeth, the easier it is to strip them. As such, they also aren't as forgiving to debris. The advantage is they run smoother. 64 pitch gears are used extensively on pan cars as they're lightweight so less strain, no jumps, and you only have to worry about carpet fibers.

Yeah, I wouldn't do it. I'd stick with 48p stuff with offroad and if they are heavier or insanely over powered, 32p.
