Personal lap timer stand

Post by RC10th »

I've had an Orion Pro LCS for a long time, and if the instructions are any indication it's circa 2001. I always used to set it on a brick which worked extremely well and was cheap.

I'd have a guess that 95% of tracks here don't have open lap timing, and while cutting laps is fun you don't really get any meaningful data, sometimes what feel faster isn't and what feels slow is sometimes faster. How many times do you say to yourself "man that was a slow lap" only to have the PA announce that it was your fastest

Anyways, my intention was to get it back out and run some good laps to get some info on the T3. The whole brick thing..... well..... surely I could do something better. I knew orion offered a stand back in the day so I went looking and found these.

I thought "I could make that!" So off I went looking for materials. I found the tripod first which I thought a bit uncanny that it looked identical. Next was to buy some plastic, velcro, eyelets and an eyelet punch.

I cut out a bit of plastic, drilled and tapped some holes

Then used the punch to crimp the eyelets

Screwed the whole thing together

And viola !

Looks almost like the factory one. Not perfect but definitely looks better than the brick, although, the brick is still probably more stable and robust, lol.

I know the newer personal lap timers are better with an app for your phone and whatnot but I like my semi-nostalgic set up.
