So, what did you do RC today?

When it's R/C related, but doesn't fit anyplace else.

I Finally drove something R/C! :P

Having been purely a collector, the actual running of models hasn't been part of the equation in a very long time. I drove a small toy grade R/C car, and flew a toy grade dual coaxial rotor helicopter around 15 years ago, and that's been it. This summer I decided to get two RTR boats for the pool. A Pro Boat Jet Jam, and Bezgar TX124. The Bezgar came last Friday, and I had a chance to charge it's Li-ion battery yesterday. That took nearly 3 hours which was a bit longer than expected. May have to try a different charger.

This evening I took it for its maiden voyage, and had a really great time. I was very surprised with the performance to the point that it might be too much for our kidney shaped pool. The steering is horrible though which didn't help, so I'll have to try and adjust it. I was also very concerned with slicing the pool liner the numerous times the boat contacted it. I sure hope it hasn't. The Jet Jam should be a far less nerve-racking experience due to having no exposed propeller or sharp turn fins. Plus it'll be a bit slower since it's not brushless. I was afraid the Bezgar would be too fast but was drawn to it having a speed adjustment knob on the controller, and a silicone bumper cap for the bow. I had the speed turned down 3/4 of the way which was about max handling speed for the pool. It's only 13" long, but more suited for a big pool or pond. Either way, I'm beyond happy with the purchase.

I converted my ESC and batteries to Deans ultra plugs. Also had to re-learn how to solder. Managed to melt one of the plugs a bit in the process. Fortunately I bought extra.

It was raining most of the day and the wife is away on a trip so out came the r/c’s. I have been putting this off for a long time, I’m a perfectionist but lack the skills necessary to be one lol I dislike cutting bodies and applying stickers almost as much as I do shaving…but I hunkered down, chopped this body and started throwing on some MCI decals. The body was painted for me and I personally think the green is a little light but what do I know. Will likely also redo the wing stickers, I should have used ones with a transparent backing. Wing tabs are cut and just need paint…so more to come.

I have sat down the past two evenings trying to finish up my Slash puller so that I may be able to compete with it next weekend. When I went ordering parts, I really didn't think there was much of a difference between the Slash and the Drag Slash, so just ordered Slash parts. Last night, I learned the diffs are completely different, so the locker I had was worthless. Shockingly, the LHS had the correct one in stock, so I thought I was good to go this evening, and then I learned that the rear arms / track width is completely different also. :( I can get correct dshafts through Amazon tomorrow, but they will probably show up at 9pm, and I have to work out of town the first half of next week. I have a feeling I am going to show up to my first comp with zero runs on the truck. :D

I build RCs like people would have done back in the '90s ..................................... if they had 3D printers.

My Hornet bodied Ishipla Monster has been a little too naked, so it was sticker time.

Watching bad CSI shows while finishing off stickers and wings…I have some more research to do on the shape of the wing tabs, I didn’t quite get them and the wing needs to be farther forward but at least now I have a new starting point.
