Team Associated RC12i Ads

Post by Dangeruss »

For 1982 Team Associated fully redesigned their electric 1/12th scale car, dubbing it the RC12i. It was still constructed of molded nylon parts attached to a fiberglass chassis but gone was the hourglass shaped main plate with its dampening assisted upper radio tray, in it's place, a trapezoidal shaped "Flex 4" fiberglass chassis plate with a fixed radio deck. The front end of the car carried over the 12E's front suspension arms but with updated spindle assemblies connecting the wire tie rods to the centrally mounted servo saver. The rear of the car was all new with updated axle blocks and the introduction of a dampening plate that used a fiction pad and tension spring for suspension adjustment. New nylon wheels with "SK' dual compound (front) foam tires were also included. There was a myriad of kits offered throughout the 12i production, from bushings and a fixed axle with no body or electronics up to complete cars equipped with a VariLock differential, graphite axles, bearings, electronics, and painted bodies. Kits were offered that changed the cut and bracing of the chassis to alter the suspension dynamics and even a version with a mono shock front suspension:

Factoid... The "i" in RC12i represented the "development" beyond the 12E based on the year the 12i was released, skipping "f" 1979, "g" 1980, and "h" 1981 ...thus, the 1982 RC12i.
