That Revell looks to work really good, but that’s some expensive paint. The Spaz Stix even surprised me going on that first spoon, but a mirror smooth finish sure helped a lot I bet.

As you saw in the video, chrome on lexan gives an almost mirror finish. But still only as good as the surface finish of the body. This lexan body isn’t super smooth.

The bumper roughness and being painted on the outside, adds to the realism effect, that's excellent! Really appreciate seeing firsthand what's possible. Thanks again!



$40 does seem insane for a can of paint, but I intend to get a lot of miles out of it. I have some wheels I want to chrome with the best spray available; how great it would be to accidentally curb a wheel, or get gravel blast marks, and just sand and refinish the wheels like new again. Makes me want to actually go drive some of these .

The Jenolite spray chrome should be here soon, but it's 101°F out there, at 5pm. Tomorrow should be better for painting. The Revell chrome spray might not take long to get here, it's shipping from 350 miles away.

These are all 40th knockoffs, and they do have a bubbly/dotted texture to them.

Liquid Chrome pen on the big KO left, both little KO's are Jenolite, big KO on the right is Rustoleum.

The $15 Jenolite is no brighter or shinier than the $7 Rustoleum, the Jenolite shows the rough texture more like the LC pens do.

So far the Rustoleum is the way to go for a smooth puffy aluminum look, over rough texture, very impressed for the cost.

The Revell will be here soon hopefully, I'll put it next to the samples above when it arrives.

The Revell #39628 Chrome Spray, is pretty amazing. I'm terrible at painting, always in the wind, and either too heavy or leaving a weird texture. Revell was really easy to get a good result.

On the left are the Rustoleum and Jenolite painted knockoffs, the (3) on the right are Revell, notice the desk halo lamp reflection in them.


Either I left some oil on this one, or put too much paint on it, finger printed it. Will respray this one.


In person, the difference between the other paints, and the Revell chrome shine and reflection, is stunning.


Worth $40 to me, to be able to refinish chrome - convincingly. I have some wheels I want to chrome with this too.

The Revell has acetone in it, like the Tamiya PS for Lexan, going to spray the TDP vette body inside, and maybe outside on the bumpers, next week. Will test a Lexan scrap first.

TDP wheels should be getting closer to being finished, the end of this coming week was what Dhawk had said, though it could be another month on those, these are the first ones of that new design for them.

I'm buying (2) sets, so I can run this in the street without worries. These may take a couple of weeks to get here, they aren't in the mail just yet.

Oooo... very nice wheels... those look light just sitting there. As pretty as the wheels are though, the Revell paint is shocking. That is a night and day difference compared to the paint pens. A lot of awesome in those two posts.

You mentioned painting the bumpers... the original TDP car used chrome Top Flight MonoKote. The replacement car with the tin foil looking bumpers is the MonoKote wrinkling and tearing from a hurried installation. Stuff is basically adhesive backed aluminum foil... same thing as aluminum HVAC tape from the hardware store. Cool thing is both can be polished like regular aluminum. Just an FYI.

If I could find the Parma #10218 body, I'd go all out to make this as exact a movie car replica as possible. Going to have to take a bit of liberty with this Bolink body though .

RJ Speed has all of the classic Bolink bodies again, so many good choices available.

In the meantime, going to use the spray chrome on the inside of the body for all of the details, and if the spray chrome looks good on the outside, will go that route on the bumpers to try to match the knockoffs. The movie car wasn't meant to be seen up close for too long, but this tribute will be on a shelf nearby, and needs a bit more local appeal.
