my Trinity motor collection

I've collected a few interesting Trinity motors and thought I would share my collection, and maybe ask couple questions along the way... most of the motors came from people that didn't know much or anything about them, and it's hard to tell them apart conclusively after the packaging or identifying dots are lost... Any info definitely welcome!


#1 - 1700 series (Championship Modified) -- unknown which one, but it spins extremely fast with no load:

Next a couple based on Le Mans teardowns -- I've researched these a fair bit but have turned up pretty limited background information...

#4 - Trinty-Kysoho steel can with standup brushes. I haven't opened it to not disturb the tape, but it spins very fast. I'd like to know more about this one. Looks to be pretty much new condition, never soldered up...

#5 - suspect this is a #2004 18x2 Pure Gold, but could be an add-on aluminum bell to another in the series:

#6 - another 2000 series, unknown which one. Motor is in new condition and looks amazing with pretty much no visible wear including from handling or storage! interestingly enough I found it on a motor lathe, where the oil from comm cutting had destroyed the label. that has been replaced with one from Ultrahive, which looks fantastic:

Awesome collection. You can get 1/4" black tape to replace what's there if you ever open them up. I just take a couple pictures of it first before removing the tape.

Thanks! I've always really liked the look of the Monster Horsepower motors but never had any until I started collecting these in the last 5-ish years. I also collect Kyosho Le Mans motors (may post those at some point), which is why I really like the Trinity-Kyosho combination ones. The slot brushes are fascinating.

Regarding motor tape, I may be missing something obvious :) , but what is its purpose when the endbell is already attached and timing set with screws? I've seen it on older closed-end motor cans, and assumed its purpose was somehow originally related to that design...?

Edit to add: I've seen the tape underneath the label on a couple motors! That made me even more hesitant to remove it for fear of damaging a nice OG label :shock:

That’s a nice stash! Some of my very favorite vintage cans there. If it helps to know, the orange billet aluminum MH was likely the “Dirt Oval” flavor of the Monster Horsepowers made by Kyosho. They were seen as both 15x2s and 14x2s, so opening yours up for a peek might be interesting if the stacks got marked. I’ve got one too and I’m also hesitant to remove the original electrical tape. I guess that they set the timing for ideal tuning assuming their intended roles, then eventually figured out that people liked tweaking their cans a bit and of course cleaned their motors. Too bad Provetti can’t weigh in on it, but anyhow that’s a sweet stash of cans.
