Got the transmission built with the correct internals.

Changed up the rear end as well so now the car has black v1 arms.

The whitened nylon shows every little spec of dirt.

I had to be patient but Jeremy from Off The Grid Designs was the one who painted this up. It’s amazing how much better it looks in person. It’s such an amazing look with lots of semi translucent metal flake. He took the time today to cut and mount it as close to the original as he could.

So in getting more details on the build. The decals were originally printed by Complex Ink. The chassis protector is going to be a challenge. It was from Scvrc which is now closed. Apparently the dog was called carter and winners of club races received carter bucks to spend in the shop. The chassis protector featured that design.

I was looking over the pictures of the original trick recently and saw something I missed on my first build.


The pictures are being taken on a reflective surface. The chassis is bare and as well it's drilled.

The holes look like they are lined up under the mounted components.

So, they appear to be dimple died?... problematic because nothing would attach flatly to the chassis in their locations.

Got to looking at the reflections trying to figure out what's going on around the trans mount when I noticed... the reflections on the chassis are on the wrong side compared to the light source for them to be holes...

...because it's clear chassis film. What appears to be holes are reflections from the film covering cap head screws protruding from the tub. One is the antenna tube mounting screw, two are the battery box mounting screws and one is the rear servo mount screw, with the tire blocking the view of the front servo mount.

And the reflections at the rear would be the film covering button headed screws for the transmission and arm mounts.

My guess is missing hardware from the kit replaced with what was handy, but like Frankentruck said have to ask Chris to know for sure... Nicely spotted detail though!

It appears that the truck may have been photographed at 2 different times. Maybe with a different bottom chassis film? The wheel nuts have been swapped over a few different pictures.

Indeed, the film changed between the black table and white table photographs as you can make out the Carter Cash skin reflecting off the white table. Wheel nuts changing is comical...
...I can fathom, "I did it to annoy people" to "I kept losing the **** things" in reality, probably something far more mundane.

A lot of care can be taken to get good photos.
It is immaculately clean in the photos. Obvious not in just raced condition.

The carter cash sticker would have been a bright spot on the dark reflective photo-booth.

It could have even been a sticker applied over the cartercash chassis saver for the photo-shoot.

I never really took the radio system into my build. But what the heck I have everything else as a 1:1 besides the carter cash, the battery and the transponder.

I see the receiver is a airtronics/sanwa 2.4 ghz system. Model number 92744. The transmitter was an Sanwa m12 Gold edition

It looks like the 92744 was also labeled as RX-451

I picked up the radio and receiver that were used for that race.

This has been a nice rolling project. I didn’t plan to go this far on the build but it’s been nice to add a piece or two each year. This was a pure happenstance purchase.

The next part will be some effort on my part.

I’ll see how different this Sanwa/airtronics feels from my hobby wing and spektrum.

At least I have a starting point for the settings.
