Can a single tamiya spray paint cover the whole body?
Can a single tamiya spray paint cover the whole body?
Hi all
Where I live its hard to get a hold of the tamiya spray paint cans (or any lexan sprays).
I managed to get a hold of 2 cans... (white and blue)
I need to be very careful with the amount I use as these 2 cans need to be enough for 2 cars (1/10 avg body size)
Would you guys say that a single spray can will be able to cover a single avg body?
Any tips would be great.
Thanks

ThanksIt depends on the surface area to be painted and colors. A single can of Tamiya paint or equivalent (volume), I would guess, based on experience, will give you, minimum, two really decent coats, leaning towards three ( possibly four). But it really depends on the surface area and color ( metallic, translucent, dark, light, etc.) Which body and what color(s) are you considering?
my cans are white and metalic blue. i have an optima mid and an avante 2011. the mid will be all white and the avante all blue metalic (and maybe a backing of white in order to seal?)
i only have 2 cans

Buggies shouldn't be a problem, but you will likely need a backing color.
All of the blue on this truck was a single Tamiya can, but it was backed in another color.

Always looking for new and interesting ways to waste money.

I think it might be possible. The white backing coat will make the blue really "pop". Maybe the blue first. Light coats with enough time for them to dry in between. Get the blue one done and hit it with just enough white to back it up. Then paint the white body. I guess I would just make sure you've got enough white to back the blue and it makes sense to do the Avante first, then use the rest for Mid. I'm pretty sure you have enough to do both.gkatz wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2024 6:30 amhi and thanks for the reply...TRX-1-3 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2024 5:58 amSame here. 1 can is able to coat 1 1/10 stadium truck, buggy or pan car vehicle of multiple coats if you don't waste it.
If you are really stuck you can back the lexan paint with non-lexan paint. it will stick to the existing paint. You may need very light coats as the solvent will make the existing paint run if it gets too wet.
I am currently looking into old associated manuals before there was lexan paint there were some recommendations.
Here is what they had to say when Lexan was the new thing.

Re: Can a single tamiya spray paint cover the whole body?
Per Tamiya, the 100ml can is sized specifically to coat one complete model. I tend to use more when doing pan car bodies, but less when doing buggies.
I build RCs like people would have done back in the '90s ..................................... if they had 3D printers.
