Whoa! Awesome! Stinger hood means it is a big block car, correct? (Ford guy, so Corvette knowledge is limited and likely mistaken)

Thanks @1911Colt! You're exactly correct it's a big block, this was a 427 Tri-Power roadster. We're not sure why, but my Stepfather sold the 427 engine/tri-power carbs and manifold, and put a 454 .30 over stroker in it, for 489 c.i. displacement, with a Tremec 5 speed. He was a 6' 5" nearly 300 lb. Marine from Vietnam who had to take off the gas pedal to fit his shoe on the accelerator rod. I liked the old 427 and B&M M-22 Rockcrusher Muncie four speed, still have the M-22 in Mom's garage.





This 489 was so big and heavy, we had to get the entire suspension setup for it, it was scary when I first got it running again with how sloppy the suspension was and how much power it has. It's a driver now, numbers don't match.

I will be running rubber. The rears are Schumacher U6710 tires. Also, I specified that I'll be using 3/16" rear axles.

On the movie car, I think it was determined there were foams on the rear and rubber ribs on the front. If you want to run rear foams, Jimmy might be willing to make design changes.

I kind of feel like I have to go with foam if I'm going to do this according to the movie. Jimmy from D-Hawk got back to me, here's his reply:

Hello, yes, We made these wheels for him, these wheels are 2.2"; and these rear wheels fit for 3/16" axle shaft,
I think I can make these wheels still,

So stoked! Going to think about the foam tires for a bit, and get back to Jimmy. Thanks so much @Frankentruck for letting me know D-Hawk will do this!

Robobugs has a good article on this car. They show the tires to be foam. Hope this helps.

That's the site I found that got me all excited in the first place, and I haven't been the same since , keep thinking about having one of these on the shelf. This little vette is what gave me the idea - a decade later - to buy my RC10 and GT, and put Bolink/Parma scale bodies on them, back in '96 and '97. Can't describe how insane it felt when I only very recently learned the actual TDP vette, was an RC10! Blew my mind! Thanks for the reply @limestang!

-The right wheels would be 1.6" dia rears, and 1.5" or 1.75" fronts. Advance Engineering Part #'s A10-R5S and A10SF5S.

Changing to a foam tire configuration just means having a smooth, no rib outside. That should be easy enough. When I got my wheels, Dhawk didn't have the smaller rear wheels in their product offerings. They do now, at least as 3 piece wheels.

There has to be a story behind the front license plate. It is different in one of the photos. I wonder if Jay crashed the car at some point or maybe it just took a beating. The front plate matches the rear in most pics, but shows damage in some.

I remember there being a story in one of these classic TDP threads, that mentioned a movie crew truck ran over the main star vette, and Jay had to make a new one in record time for the shoot to continue.

From those images that looks like a touring car body. The original was a wide pan car body. Parma I believe.

I was convinced the original TDP body was the Bolink BL2254 63 CV Coupe, but I could certainly be wrong:


These bodies would've been available in '86-'87 when the movie was made.

Well that body looks pretty wide so it may work very well. With that painted Bolink body picture the biggest telltale that it’s not the movie car body is the sharp ridge down the roof line.

After looking at pictures and reading numerous posts, here’s my best estimate on the wheels:

Rear - 1.5” OD, 1.3” Width, 0.15” Negative Offset, Foam Tires
Front - 1.5” OD, 0.7” Width, 0.19” Negative Offset, Foam Tires with 4 grooves

Does this seem reasonable? Hopefully I calculated the offset correctly. It appears same as factory 3 piece wheels.
