Ultima Duratrax Graphite Chassis or Kyosho?
I swear I had found another pic of this chassis in a thread but can't find it now. I recall it having more weave pattern than this one which I recently got. Google tells me it is a Ultima Pro XL made by Duratrax but that other thread which I can't find now said a Kyosho option part?

Re: Ultima Duratrax Graphite Chassis or Kyosho?
Here's the other thread with more weave to the chassis. Also the only place I can find mention of Kyosho part # UMW-2 carbon . I think the difference between the standard Ultima Pro XL and Duratrax is front kick up angle, working on confirming with someone who had both. Sorry if this is old hat, it's new to me.

it looks like the duratrax version would be most likely cut by composite craft and have the unidirectional carbon fiber, pretty standard composite craft material. The other kyosho part looks like a 3k weave, and manufactured by someone else.

Was composite craft pretty much making everything for others at this point in history, is that why you say that? Just curious for knowledge. Thanks

What's the kick-up angle of your chassis? If it's 30 degrees it's probably a Duratrax.
I don't know for a fact who cut Duratrax's stuff but I think it's actually pretty likely that they did it themselves. Duratrax was part of Hobbico which was Great Planes+Tower Hobbies. Great Planes' website, and wiki page, highlight that they were the first to design machines specifically made to cut RC parts.
There were a bunch of companies back then laying up their own graphite and cutting their own chassis. DA Graphite for example...they did a lot of custom stuff and supplied the material for HPI cars.

Yeah I was just basing that on the fact that almost all of the chassis we're damn near identical, so it stands to reason composite craft had their hands full.

Here it is next to an Ultima II Kelron and Trinity chassis. Clearly has more kick up in front. I don't have a protractor but I think 30 vs others at 20?

Kyosho chassis is 20 degrees on Pro XL, Duratrax is 30 degrees confirmed.
Is there anyone that disagrees or forever hold your peace?

Re: Ultima Duratrax Graphite Chassis or Kyosho?
I've got the same Duratrax chassis with 30° kickup. It has a white layer sandwiched between the the graphite top and bottom.
Do you still have the header card for yours? If not can you remember the part number?
It looks like Duratrax had two different Pro XL chassis'. The first was part number DTXC2503 and the second was DTXC2504. The second one also claimed that it was 1/2" longer. I guess that the first was the same as a stock Pro XL chassis in length and the second version was even longer.
I've compared mine to an original Kyosho chassis and it looks to be about the same length.

The two chassis Duratrax I know of are the Pro XL version in the OP and a 7 battery slot version made for the earlier Pro. I believe the Pro still had the shorter wheelbase.1300GT wrote: ↑Tue Jun 06, 2023 12:51 am I've got the same Duratrax chassis with 30° kickup. Re: Ultima Duratrax Graphite Chassis or Kyosho?
No worries. Thanks for the reply.
I've been tracking down the chassis part numbers. The seven cell cutout Pro chassis is DTXC2501. There's a DTXC2502 blank Pro chassis without the cell cutouts and the the two aforementioned XL chassis'.
