Reedy motor cleanup

Post by mikea96 »

So a rc10 team car I picked up recently had this reedy mod motor in it. Looks like it had a balloon over the end of it that was melted on but the motor appears to be in good condition. Anyone have any ideas on cleaning this off without hurting the can or decal.

Maybe try a q-tip and warm water on a decal area to see if the material loosens enough to pick off with fingernail.

One would assume anything you use to remove the balloon chemically would also remove the label. Me personally, I'd probably just clean it all off and replace the label.

Maybe try some heat gun first? I don't know...

If it is balloon and rubber, hydrating might help without damaging the label.

I keep original labels that are much worse than that, but it doesn't appear to have the the original Mr. letter sticker.

Yeah I have seen a few in the past without the MR sticker. It doesn't appear that it was used much.

I've tried gun bluing and for some reason it didn't work well on the can. I don't use anything on the can anymore other than isopropyl alcohol to clean it, being careful not to get it on original or new labels.

Yeah I thought about the gun bluing but wasn't sure how it would work.
