24 Hour Challenge: Your Top 10 Music Albums

Post by morrisey0 »

Just throwing this out there for fun. Don't shoot from the hip or take a week to figure it out. You get a day.

You are being sent to a secret island location in 24 hours, and you will have no internet access to stream music, nor are you allowed to take data storage media. Due to the sensitive environment you are being sent to, you are allowed an old school CD player and 10 pre-recorded (non-recordable) music CDs*. You will spend the rest of your life in this location, and these albums will be all the music you will ever hear again, outside of your memories of course, and the music that others that may be around you brought along.

As I type this, I have no idea if they actually still make CDs, so if you have an album that is post CD, you can somehow take that. I am also aware that "albums" or "groups of music songs" are an out of date concept, but play along. I think I have a decent grasp of the demographic of the users of this forum, and the idea of albums are going to hit with 90% of them. But hey, if you want to throw out a song or group of songs that are post-CD/album from a singer/band, you may get a pass to DL what you got and "burn" a CD and take it along.

* greatest hits, live, soundtracks, and double-albums are acceptable

And yea, there are probably a dozen variables in this I haven't thought of.

I will be posting my 10 tomorrow night.

4. Metallica, Black album.
5. Nirvana, "Nirvana" (black album).
6&7. Pink Floyd, The Wall (2 disc).

1. Van Halen, The Best of Both Worlds
2. Beastie Boys, Licensed to I'll
3. AC/DC, The Razors Edge
4. Jackyl, Choice Cuts
5. George Thorogood, Live: Let's Work Together
6. Metallica, Black album
7. Bon Jovi, Keep the Faith
8. ZZ Top, Eliminator
9. Brownsville Station, Smokin' in the boy's room, The best of.
10. Primus, Frizzle Fry

It's tough to limit to 10. I want a bigger island. Maybe I'd bring more and claim "some of these aren't mine." 🤣

I considered Beastie Boys and Bon Jovi as my alternates. I chose Swass as something different.

I also considered LL Cool J, All World.

I was trying not to pick greatest hits albums, but caved in. There's a lot of other bands I wanted to include, and my list isn't necessarily in order although Van Halen would be the top of it were.

I started with a solid list of 20, and License To Ill was on that, but didn't make the cut.

These are in no particular order. And I am sure soon one that I completely forgot about will pop in my head. :?

Violent Femmes : Violent Femmes
Weezer : Weezer
REM : Document
The Lemonheads : It's A Shame About Ray
Camper Van Beethoven : Key Lime Pie
Counting Crowes : August And Everything After
Depeche Mode : 101
Live : Mental Jewelry
Bare Naked Ladies : Rock Spectacle
Jane's Addiction : Nothing Shocking

Maybe I need to revisit this one. The only track I remember is Yankee Rose.

Most of the tracks on there are pretty good. Dave's "A little ain't enough" album is a good one too. 10 discs is just a hard criteria to meet.

There’s a lot of killer songs on it including the cover of Tobacco Road. Being a guitar player, the over the top fretboard gymnastics of Steve Vai and Billy Sheehan is just insane to hear..they really made a statement with that album and pulled it off live too..check out some of the live videos.
