You noticed the 17 etched on to the endbell too, right? 8)

Go back about 3 pages and look at the Checkpoint selection i posted showing the endbells on mine and you will see what i mean....

Yes I did notice the 17 as well. Looks just like yours do. Nice of them to do so. Would this motor be under the Platinum series as well with the white label ?
Who do you race for ?
Me……. I race for me.
That’s impossible, I was told you need a sponsor to race.

I have a 13 and two 14's, both of which have blue labels.

I then have a 15, 16 and 17 and they all have silver labels.

And then I have a 20 with a black label..... plus i have seen a photo on a forum of brand new in packet 18 and 20 both of which also have black labels.

As such, there is definitely a label colour pattern there. I would say your 17 should have a silver label version.

What is the armature like in that and are the bearings thinner than the 'norm'...?
I measured the endbell at the bearing area at 12 mm wide.
This leaves just around 1 mm for a regulat size bearing. So quite possible a smaller bearing was used.

If you look at my Igarashi MG thread in the Vintage Electronics section you will see we had a few issues sourcing the correct, thinner bearings used in that. I suspected yours may be the same.

Whilst on the topic of older motors, nobody has really mentioned modified Mabuchi 'silver can' motors.... I have an MG modified Mabuchi which is discussed here:-

https://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=78&t=44804&p=508571&hilit=igarashi+mg#p508571

Just thought it might be of interest. Similar to the Igarashi's, it has been opened, rewound and ballraced.

While we're on the topic of Mabuchi and Igarashi motors I would like to share mine.
On the top left is a Mabuchi RS540SD. Next to it is an Associated stock Igarashi. Bottom left is an Igarashi sold by RCH which is modified with bearings, a flat machined on the shaft and advanced timing. The turns and winds are unknown. It's intended use is for off road buggies. The yellow tape holding the endbell on looks to be the same as the tape that Mike Reedy used on his own modified Igarashi motors. Lastly is a Bolink Team Checkpoint Stage V which is a full blown modified with slot car brushes. The turns are unknown but it is a single wind. The armature has no markings on it but there is a number 5 on the plate that holds the brushes and a number 5 inside the endbell.

1300GT - those are super nice. Thanks for posting. I really like that Checkpoint.

I have a couple of Reedy Igarashi modifieds... which I believe to be pretty special, although i have only opened one of them up for a nose so far. These are ex-Walt Bailey Mike Reedy 1981 1/12th US Nationals motors.

The yellow label one has a red dot on the endbell, which i believe signifies the spec. It also has ventilation holes drilled in the can and classic Reedy wraps. It actually looks barely used.

I think there are 3 different sizes for outer diameter at those small size bearings.
Also with or without flange.

Do you need some and which one?

Maybe there are not many modified Mabuchi motors out there. Beside the Black Mabuchi, which got a black can, front ball bearing and a more powerful wind.
But actually just something of a machine modified.
Maybe there have been no other Mabuchis which were "officially" modified by a motor builder.
Private modifications not counted.

Well I mentioned my modified Mabuchi before but a lot of postings and threads seems to fade after some time.
A couple of years ago I bought a RC12E which came with a nice MRP Kremer Porsche.
Hidden below the body I found a very interesting motor when arriving at my home.
The Mabuchi can got ball bearings and was cutted similar to the Trinity and MIH motor.
Something I really like :D
But that car is hidden somewhere in my boxes and I don´t disassemble cars usually.

Maybe if you search through my postings you could find that picture.
I have no idea when exactly I posted this.

I will try to hunt for your post.

I know Mick Goddard (MG) was offering modified Mabuchi 540's as i have the adverts and examples of them myself - although i think apart from being 25T the Buggy Special is a stock motor.

April 1983:-
April 83.jpg

July 1983:-

2 (1).jpg
This earlier advert from March 1983 also tells you that the case ends were ballraced, so he was definitely offering modified Mabuchi as well as Igarashi versions.

The Magnum O B/Race is what my full modified MG Igarashi corresponds to. I have spent a long time hunting out these examples to complete my early MG collection.
