2.2 wheels on Ultima rere
Has anyone had any luck running 2.2 front wheels on the Ultima rere? Ive got a handful of rc10 front wheels I'd like to use but I'm not sure if anyone has had any luck adapting them to the Ultima. Ideally I would like to start running this at my local outdoor track

If your wheels use 5/16 OD bearings, simply swapping them for 8mm bearings should work with some shims.
I'm not aware of a bearing that would fit the 3/8 bearing wheels. You might also able to find some 3/8 OD tubing that has the correct wall thickness to make some adapters.

Re: 2.2 wheels on Ultima rere
This was pretty easy bitd when AE wheels were 3/16 x 5/16 flanged- the 5/16 bearing hole was fine with the stock 8mm bearing pressed in. Unfortunately when they went to the 3/16 x 3/8 bearing hole there isn’t a metric size that is close enough. You would would need to have front axles made for 3/16 bearings to do it right. Or see if you can find someone to machine a 4mm to 3/16” adapter sleeve.

K&S 8129 brass tubing looks like the OD and ID might be perfect to adapt 4mm axles up to 3/16".

Hmm sounds like I need to get off my lazy butt and make a set of new axles. I've got a small lathe in the garage but it's disassembled from our latest move. On the bright side once I have my lathe put back together they look extremely easy to make

Re: 2.2 wheels on Ultima rere
I had some K&S #5074 assorted tubing. The 3/16 tubing in that pack fits pretty well. I checked it on a new Kyosho axle and 3/16 ID bearing.
The fit in the bearing was snug. The fit over the axle was a touch loose, kinda like a bushing. I'd probably put some Locktite between the sleeve and axle.
The tubing came from the local Hobby Lobby store.

Re: 2.2 wheels on Ultima rere
For my Scorpion rere, I used a 4mm bullet with the solid end trimmed off to make a sleeve that fits over the 4mm axle and accepts 3/16 id bearings. The bullet connector has a tick of play on the axle but if you're careful cutting it can be secured by the nut. The play is nothing compared to the slop in the scorpion front end!

Re: 2.2 wheels on Ultima rere
I'll be trying to fit up 2.2's on a re-release ultima I picked up today at lunch. I have a set of wheels from a Tamiya sand viper that will work. I think trf201 front wheels would work also just hard to find. I was thinking the 4x8x3 flange bearings would work but then I see the JC wheels I ordered are 3/8 bearings grrrrr

Re: 2.2 wheels on Ultima rere
For modern wheels most of us used to use Turbo Scorpion wheels, but now JC Racing Products make 2.2 wheels specifically for the Ultima https://www.jcracingproducts.co.uk/wheels/kyosho-2wd-ultima76jimmy wrote: ↑Wed Feb 09, 2022 7:27 pm I'll be trying to fit up 2.2's on a re-release ultima I picked up today at lunch. Re: 2.2 wheels on Ultima rere
Been messing with my Ultima again. Was able to fit a Traxxas Bandit front end on very easily without having to butcher any parts in the chassis.

Now I'm full hex and track width is about 9-3/4" with losi wheels.

Mini E-revo rims are perfect on the rear (Traxxas 7171), they have the same offset as the scorpion ones, i also tried the jconcepts rulux (3333B) ones and they work just as well

Re: 2.2 wheels on Ultima rere
I ended up doing a similar thing but using Optima front knuckles and hubs. it widens the front end, and adds front caster which helps the car but the inner ball stud needs to be moved higher on the shock tower to correct the roll centre
