Tap Size for M3 screws on RC10

Post by poohbah »

Let's say that I ruined one of the servo mounts on my new RC10 B6.3D by forcing a screw in there at the wrong angle. Now the bolt will only go in half way. I can live with the mistake, but I'd rather fix it. I'd like to re-tap the hole, but I am unsure whether or not I need a M3.5-0.6 tap or a M3.5 tap. The mount uses the M3x10 mm FHCS screws (associated part number 25202). The M3 bolts seem rather ubiquitous on the RC10 and I am hoping someone out there has made a similar mistake and has re-tapped threads successfully.

Thanks

Assuming the original thread was 3mm I would re-tap the original "straight" threads with a 3mm tap. If your bolt only goes in half way luckily you still have some undamaged threads left as well.

If you only cross threaded part of the hole you should be able to clean the threads, ideally from the back side. The tap you need would be an M3 0.5 pitch.

M3 0.5 tap was the correct one. Thanks for the help.
