Looking at the Radon 2; it seems like a lot of motor for $21. I think maybe a 19T may be a better option than trying to make some old motor I have sitting around work. Thanks. The motor that is on there now was just one that came on my T4 and I have no idea its actual condition. I could have spent 10 minutes going through it, but was ready to get driving!

Everything on the rear end is new and seems to rotate freely, except one item that I am waiting to reinspect. On my original trans, the aluminum spline plate had a slight bend to it, and the mesh of the gears side to side was very different, and one side simply bottomed out the gears. On the other plate, it seems straight, but one set of gears does not spin as freely as the other after cleaning, swapping gears, lubing, etc. I didn't think it was enough to cause an issue, and was hoping it would work itself out, but I will inspect it again after maybe a couple more packs.

Oh, and you can tell in the pics, EVERYTHING is covered in a layer of pollen now that isn't helping anything! It is up in every possible crevice.
I build RCs like people would have done back in the '90s ..................................... if they had 3D printers.

Taking a look at your car pic, you're using 5000 mAh batteries. Years ago, the NiCd batteries were 1200 to 1700 mAh and with the run time they had the brushed motors got pretty warm. Running 3x to 4x as long on modern batteries without heat sinks or fans? I'm sure there's plenty of experience on the site that can state whether they've had any overheating issues or not. That seems to me like it should be a consideration.

Time is definitely a consideration , 5 min run times was normal BITD and the motors got pretty hot in that time , with modern battery's you get 3 or 4 times that run time and it's enough to kill virtually any brushed motor other than crawler motors ! I run mine 5 min then let them cool while I drive something else , it's also a good excuse to have two or more cars ! :wink:
If a jobs not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well.
A problem shared is a problem halved but an advantage shared is no advantage at all.

A couple things to consider.

- True battery ratings. I have major reservations about the validity of the ratings on any of these high capacity Chinese battery packs. I don't have much faith in packs above ~2500, particularly off-brands.

- Gearing and motor selection. Put a milder motor in and gear it down some. A 20-23T motor and mild gearing will go a long ways in helping keep things cool. They will also extend your run time even more.




Maybe it's just me, but I don't think my buggies are as much fun when they are setup to be fast. They are hard to control and I don't have room to really open them up (honest, buggy compatible terrain).
Always looking for new and interesting ways to waste money.
