Early RC10GT clutch springs ?

When I ran the MIP clutch I couldn't get it to stop slipping. No matter what setup I had it on it would always do the same thing. Worked ok for the first half of a race and then it would start getting worse, to the point it would barely move at the end of a five minute heat. Chased the issue for a couple of races thinking diff, or slipper clutch. Finally some other guys I raced with on occasion asked what my clutch setup was and then told me to get rid of the MIP and use the stock shoes as they had the same issue. Went back and the problem disappeared.

Interesting. I never experienced that. I will say that in my day it was CZ-Z’s and CV’s. All side exhaust .12’s and a .15 every once in a while. We’re you running more powerful rear exhaust engines? Wonder if maybe that was exceeding what the clutch could handle. I got out while nitro was still on top- before brushless came along- and got back in way later when nitro was fully dead. I never experienced the hotter engines on the trucks.

I ran an OS 12 CVR if I remember correctly. It seemed odd for sure, but I had weird luck like that sometimes when I raced. I haven't tried one since then to see if was an anomaly but it definitely was the issue for me.

I could never get my stock shoes to Not stick. All I could run in our soft one minute hard the next sugar clay track was the MIP 4n1. That is weird that yours did that. Only issue I really ever had was self induced when I put the wrong spring on my MIP clutch off of a rustler that was working next to me on the pit bench and it slipped because the spring was bigger around and hit the clutch bell binding it.

I never had any issues with the MIP clutch either, I always deglazed the bell and roughed up the shoes every time I did maintenance.

The .15 CV-R(X) was amazing at the time as it was the first engine that would make the GT wheelie. The 12 CV-R(X) just didn't quite have enough.

Purchased another truck, as I’m cleaning out the box and putting all the little loose things floating in the box into a baggie. I noticed something most would overlook. Yep, that’s the factory clutch spring laying there. I looked in the manual and the mention of clutch spring has been removed.
