B64 front shock tower replacement: aluminum or B74 shock tower?

Post by Chickenpuff »

Hi,

I'm new here but have four RC10's. My original RC10 I bought as a kid in '89, two B6's and a B64.

My question, with the B64 front shock tower being prone to blowing out, would it be better to replace with an aluminum one or would the B74 front shock tower fit? (I've heard the B74 has a stronger design)

Thank you in advance.

Cheers

The B64 and B74 towers have different geometry and are not interchangeable. The issue I've seen with aluminum towers is while they won't break, they tweak and bend. Sometimes the bend is so slight you might not even notice but it affects the handling of the vehicle.

RDP and PSM, and others make aftermarket towers for the B64 that are thicker, reinforced, and not as prone to breaking. Looks like a lot are out of stock but maybe try this one: https://www.amainhobbies.com/psm-4.0mm-carbon-b64-b64d-v2-front-shock-tower-psm01959/p763074

something I did with my b44 was double up the shock towers in front for awhile. replaced all the hardware with longer hardware and it lasted til I got bored with it. I ended up with another one in trade a year later that had a 1/4" thick aluminum plate one made for it...that thing didn't move anywhere

Doubling up would be a good backup, thanks for the suggestion.

I've ordered the PSM shock tower. I'll let you know how it goes.
