Re: Motor Collection - Old School Horsepower
Just had these four land in my lap. The Checkpoints were some of the nicest made and best performing motors of the era I always thought. I only had one in my collection but this set came from a well-known UK racer and even included a pair of new brushes although I already have a few new sets available. I am not too well versed in the label colours and their meaning/relation to wind but perhaps somebody who knows more might be able to fill me in a little. The endbell etchings indicate 13, 14, 15 and 16 turns (I didn't think they went that low...?)

Re: Motor Collection - Old School Horsepower
Nothing like what some of you have, but this is my modest brushed collection. A few are obviously in rough shape and a couple need new bearings, but most are in fairly decent shape (three are brand new).
Along with some not pictured (in cars), being:
Another Reedy Radon and a Associated Cadillac Ave Blue label.
Trinity Topaz, Titanite, and Midnight 2.
Another Kyosho 22T Mega Stock and a 34° Super Stock.
Peak 12T Thunderbolt.
Orion 23T Rush.
Also not pictured are a Quick Turn/Bad Dog comm lathe and Integy Brush Master.

Hey Martin
Just been catching up with this wonderful thread.
For me, the highlights are all about MG.
I was also a Team Schumacher driver in the mid 90s, as well as a team MG guy.
His motors were always so good. (Cells too)
Took me to a Scottish Championship win in On Road in 1995, and you really needed horsepower on this big open tracks.
Also used to get your name in the magazines, and a Christmas card from Mick. Good times.
Does anyone have a high res scan or picture of his logo or motor stickers?? I have a buddy who could re-create them.
Thanks.

Re: Motor Collection - Old School Horsepower
Hi mate, thanks for posting. I am still in touch with Mick, he is a little hard of hearing these days. Glad to hear you like the pics i have been posting.
I have several examples of original unused motor stickers, in MG POWER format, and the silver EXTERMINATOR versions. I also have the early red MG stickers.
I have had the MG logo replicated for bodyshell use also. They look great. I do have an unused MG Magnum motor but i have never thought of reproducing those stickers. Not yet anyway

Re: Motor Collection - Old School Horsepower
If you speak to Mick again, please pass on my best ( Stuart Leckie). Myself and a few others had great success in Scotland with his stuff.
Long since moved to Canada, so lost touch with a lot of folks from those days.
I still have a couple of my team motors, I always loved that he hand signed them.
Cheers.

Re: Motor Collection - Old School Horsepower
A few of the more interesting ones in there. I have just added an individual post about the AYK/MG hybrid motor as i thought that being such a curiosity deserved a post all of its own.
There is a Rocket Technique Motor which i have never come across before. Nice label, and has an Air Supply endbell on it. It has 16 engraved on the ccan and there is a clear 'Rocket 16' stamping on one of the armature segments. It looks to be a 16 Double. The red arm colour immediately shouts Trinity to me. Has anybody else come across one of these before?
There is also a nice MG Magnum 14Hex which is a little unusual. The previous owner was sponsored by MG so there are a few curious winds in here.

Re: Motor Collection - Old School Horsepower
There are also a nice pair of Trinity motors in here, one of which is pretty mint. Lovely.
Nice, totally mint Le Mans SPA 480WT (which is now sold.....)
...and a very very nice, early, blue label Schumacher motor. This one i was particularly interested in as it is different to the gold fin Yokomo endbell version i already have. In fact this was one of the main reasons i bought the lot.
When compared to my later example it is obvious that the label finish and detail is totally different, being a mat finish with different spacing and the 'Built By Mike Reedy' section on the later version instead just has MODIFIED on the earlier example.

Re: Motor Collection - Old School Horsepower
The label finish on the Schumacher motor is what I mentioned to you before, although I don't think you realised there was a difference. The new one you have I think is Schumacher's own motor (not Reedy).
My two Schumacher/Reedy's have the early end bell & matt label (with built by mike reedy), exactly the same as the one I had in the 80's, so a bit different your Schumacher/Reedy.

Re: Motor Collection - Old School Horsepower
Yes, i do see what you mean now. It looks like there are three different variations of these. I stripped the mat finish label one and there are no 'Reedy' wraps around windings at the comm end. Looks like there is an intermediate non gold fin Reedy prepared version as well out there too... daym.... another one for me to find!
I have managed to source an original shiny motor decal however
