New Forum?

Post by Tadracket »

I spent the last couple nights working hard on my old (not vintage by any means) Traxxas Nitro Rustler. I am doing some cool things to it. Alas, where am I to show off this trick little truck? And my other cars are not vintage. The vehicle forums here are both Vintage. There are almost as many threads in the non-RC10 than in the RC10.

I think if we had a miscellaneous forum for newer machines, every one would have something to contribute. I know this site was designed for the RC10 and we have a really nice tight knit group. But what is one more thread? It's not going to pull everyone over from universe or some other site like that and flood our threads with mindless ranting.

Anyone else feel this way or does everyone have other places they haunt? I use to frequent other sites but my life only has room for one forum. I feel like I am cheating on Bill when I go to others

I think there could be better organization of "non" RC10 cars here, but this IS a site devoted to RC10s and not other cars. I'd like to see a bit more structure for non-Tamiya vintage cars, just because there are no other sites that are devoted to vintage RC collecting or racing, but that's just me. I can completely understand why there would be resistance to adding more forums for new cars.

I agree with keeping it vintage (rc10 and non-rc10) stuff. I hang out at RCTech for all other new RC stuff.

I also like URC (UltimateRC). They have LOTS of Sub Forums fro just about ANY RC you can think of. There is a sort of "Ganglike" mentality with a few folks there (dont tick 1 guy off, cause they will attack you at every turn then), but as a whole, its a GREAT place.

This is the first mistake!

This would be the second

It's Traxxas, no one else wants to see it!

Strike four!

Strike 5! While the other threads might not be RC10, they ARE at least RC related, unlike anything that starts with a T, has raxxa in the middle, and ends with an S. That is just garbage in cool RC clothing.

Other than all that, you're in the right place.

I can't completly agree with the ostrich on the traxxas stuff, mainly cause I'm still stuck in the 90's when I raced my trx1's and 3's and ls and ls2's. But he's got a point, go to the traxxas forums and it's a bunch of morons. I think rtr's have dumbed down this hobby quite a bit but oh well. Just put it in the nonrc10 section and it will get no love like mine, unless you have a "cool" wing to sell off of it or it has a wierd body on it. eh, maybe I should just finish one of my rc10s so I can put it up here

I agree with you guys about the RTR's. But my truck is different and I think most here would appreciate it. Except for maybe the Mac users. I know how you guys like to keep it simple and force fed. Tweaking is not your thing, I understand :P

I replaced the rx pack with a lipo and installed an ESC between the 3rd channel and the starter. Then I gutted a two channel radio and installed the innards of a 3 channel and set the 3rd channel up with a push button on top. I hate the thumb rocker on the standard 3.

Now I just plug in the battery and toss the truck out on the track. Then I hit the start button on top of the radio and away she goes. Well, I thought it was cool. But since it is not vintage, I'll post the pics elsewhere.

WOW, Tad, that sounds AWFULLY convenient!!

Though I HATE the Traxxas Community Forums (Traxxas Nazis), I have FEW, if any, complaints about their "Products". Mainly because NOTHING is "RTR" for me. Any Vehicle I get (never bought NEW, RTR OR Kit), immediately gets tore down, cleaned and "tweaked" (so to speak). Because of that, I have little fear of tearing into any vehicle now.

Tad, no one said you couldn't post pics......................

for what it's worth, awhile back i brought up the idea of breaking down the "non-rc10" section down into sub-forums. the main ones (kyosho, schumacher, traxxas, tamiya, yokomo, etc.) would each have their own seperate areas. but, nothing came of it. we've been talking about a tech section off and on for quite some time, too.

i'd personally like to see a complete restructure of the whole forum, but that's just me.

Yeah, Doug touched on that earlier too. That would be a great idea. Make things a little easier to navigate.

I'll post some pics later in. I'm getting ready to take it to the track an see how it hold up. I did a few things that I normally would not do with zip ties and ceramic resistors  but I am short on time and money.

PBR, I used the entire car I got from you. I transferred the motor and bearing from my other car. It looks great, I love it. I'll try to shoot some video of the remote start and post on the tube later.

 That is the one thing positive that sprouts from being lazy  . I might spend an hour making a 10 minute job easier. Just so I can do it in 5 minutes the next time I do it

From my experience at Clodtalk and other sites, having too many forums isn't a good thing - no one can find what they want when they want it. Then there's not knowing which forum is best to post things in or complaints that there isn't a forum for a specific model - say rc10's?  (that's how RC10Talk got started ... )

Tad, it's pretty neat that you've hooked up a remote start - problem is, it's Traxxas, it's not going to run anyway.  Ah, I'm giving you poop, you know that! :P Your remote start is a very cool idea, I look forward to seeing it it when you get it posted up. Maybe you could do a build-up thread on it with a few more details, you never know when someone else might find the info helpful, such as the modification of a 3 channel radio. 8) 8)
