I've just been watching loads of YouTube about 3d scanning for 3d printing , think I'm gonna have a go next week , you can use some free software and a phone camera , take a tone of pictures from different angles and it makes a 3d model or you can use an Xbox kenect scanner , I fancy printing my own head for a driver figure for my cars

That's got to be a fairly simple thing to design and make , I'd need pictures and all the measurements , gear pitch and No of teeth etc but I'm happy to give it a try .

I'm stuck onboard a ship 200miles off the coast of Brazil... no way off or home for me at the moment so I just have to sit it out. I have been passing the time bugging people to sell me a few items I have been hunting for, and generally searching for obscure parts on eBay and via extensive forum trawling. Kinda sucks not being home to help the wife through this... she is home alone (well, looking after the little ones) so has her work cut out.

My father has taken up one of my build projects during his forced isolation however, so that is something positive, for him and me

I feel your pain Dinglem , myself I miss walking my dogs ,my daughter and i have something ,either a cold or corona , she's pretty sick but not seriously just miserable ,me not so much but no matter if its corona or not we're all locked down , I'd just love to go out for an hour or so with the dogs , they think I don't love them anymore

Early 90's vintage buggy schwing fest!!!

New lap top arrived this afternoon, took a while to get my usual stuff on it but its good to go now, loads up Fusion 360 in less than half the time that the PC does. Tomorrow I'm going to play with using a digital camera to make 3d scans then I'm going to he the driver in my scale cars.
I've also been given the all clear to leave the house again! Even if its just to walk the dogs or food shopping. The rest of the family are still in lockdown for another week. I very sincerely hope everybody else that gets the virus has it as easy as I did, keep well everyone.

I have all the photogrammetry software loaded up , I've taken nearly 100 photo's of my daughter and its crunching them now , hopefully it produces a 3d model ..... Probably won't , evidently there's a degree of skill involved ....
Failed , trying again with a simple object , think I know what went wrong , it tried to model the room instead of my daughter who was revolving slowly on a swivel chair .
OK just did a Tamiya box wrench with just 28 pictures ( not enough) and got what looked like a rusted crucifix so I have it working.

Just got back from a long dog walk that I'd been planning for ages , I live an the Surrey hills a beautiful area in the south of England and I'm surrounded by great places to go for a walk .
A friend and I have been slowly trying to link up all the separate areas we walk in , the hills form part of the North Downs and there is an ancient pathway that's roots are in the birth of the history of England and is called the "North Downs way" , a trading and pilgrimage rout that's been in use since records began and before , well over 2000 years and maybe twice that ,there are areas near me that were flint mines or quarry's from flint tool making .
Anyway I found another linking pathway between my Village and one of my favourite local walks , very satisfying but just a little sad that my friend could not share it but on the bright side I was accompanied by my 21 year old son so it was nice to spend a little quality time with him .
