6 gear motor limit
Ive been looking for a suitable motor for my rc10 and bought an unknown demon motor. Just opened it and i think it may be a 12x5.
I was hoping it would be more around 17t.
Is 12t too much for a 6 gear transmission? What can they handle?

Re: 6 gear motor limit
I found a couple of old posts and am now also thinking about gearing. My car has the stock 32dp spur. Gearing options require changing to another pitch.
Ive been looking for spur gears and im a little confused. What can i use? I can find 48dp (81t ish would be good right) but not rc10 specific. I assume centre hole size, diff ball placement and amount varies?
I can find 64dp rc10 spurs though.
What do i need to look for with spur gears?
Thanks.

Re: 6 gear motor limit
There is nothing wrong with your 32dp spur. If I recall it looked to be new.
Gearing is limited by motor cells etc. The spur gear is only a limiting factor when you cannot use a larger one because it rubs on the gear cover.
54T (32dp) spur will provide same gear ratio as a 108T (64dp). 81t 48dp is also the same.
As reference back in 1988 I ran 2x17 54t spur 9t pinion with 1200mAh cells.
6 gear was made to suffer once 1700mAh SCE came out and hotter motors could be made to last the 5min+
Anything lower than a 17 turn would probably be silly on a 6 gear. Black idlers for anything lower.

Re: 6 gear motor limit
Cant find any idlers anywhere which is a shame as mine are a bit worn. Only on one edge, like one of the shafts has been flopping around.
I figured id run it till it blows then make some metal ones from the outdrive gears.
Modern black idler gears would be nice if i could find any!
