What year was brushless first used at the World's?
As the title suggests I'm curious what year brushless motors were first seen at the worlds off road championships? I wasn't sure whether to post this in vintage or modern electronics so feel free to criticize.

If a jobs not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well.

Not sure, but I remember brushless used in insane speed run cars in the mid 90's. brands like Aveox etc...

It doesn't look as though brushless was used at the '07 offroad worlds. It was in '11.
Not sure about '09. It looks like there was some kind of boycott and no one really showed up. I'm having a hard time finding any kind of info about it. I would personally think that by '09 guys were running brushless.

Re: What year was brushless first used at the World's?
My minds a bit hazy on the subject but I remember brushless motors for R/C first showing up in the aircraft world, and were sensorless only. People of course tried putting them in land based vehicles but they weren't suited for it due to cogging, and other problems at low speeds on the ground. Thus they were only used for things like speed runs as proffesso mentioned. I don't recall any land based brushless products being mass produced for the general public until Novak came out with the Super Sport setup in 2003. With that being the case, I'd say they weren't used in racing anywhere until after that which should help to narrow it down some.

I just realized I was looking at an article from 97, not 07.
