Turns out printers are like RC cars. You can’t have just one.

On the left is my trusty Ender 5. Super solid, never fails. On the right, my new Ender 5 plus which has a ginormous 350x350x400 print volume. I’m expecting great things from her. I will probably enclose my regular 5 and use the plus for PLA.

But then this happened. Pulse XE. I bought it because it comes tuned and set up specifically for printing NylonX and NylonG. Essentially a Prusa i3 style machine but tricked out with a ruby nozzle, bondtech extruder, 32 bit Azteeg board, and a BLTouch. I have the enclose coming as well as the dryer and a bunch of filament. I’m just making a quick test print with some Ryno material (pretty cool stuff!) and then I can start printing my wheels and other structural parts. Woot! Now I need more room, my poor CR10s is sitting on the floor and the Pulse is sitting on its box as a table lol.

Very nice. By chance are either of you interested in providing perhaps one-off custom 3d printing service - for those of us who don't possess the necessary equipment or skills? I don't have anything in particular in mind at the moment but just for future reference... If you would rather not be bothered with it then that's fine. I understand that setup can be a bit trial and error so it's not as simple as loading a file and pressing the start button.

It was definitely part of my thought process but the file creation needs to be taken into account as well. A lot of the stuff floating around sites like thingiverse are not tested, won’t print, wouldn’t be structural etc. It would be a lot like how I operate my cnc router- if I draw the part it will cost you some money but then it’s on me. If you supply the file it is cheaper, but then it’s your responsibility to get it designed right and make it printable.

As above there is a big development process to making a functional part , in reality if you say pick a part like a front lower arm for a car then personally I'd want the whole car in order to have it to A test fit it and B stress test it before I'd be happy that its a useful part .
The alternative is that you design it and send the file , we could then print and send it back , charge you , and you then find it either does not fit or that its too weak to be used , you then have to redesign , send us the file we print and charge you again ,send it back and you hope its good this time .
To get to the point where I think I nearly have a set of gears ready I'm 30+ test gears into it .......

I didn't read it as harsh either. In fact, it all seems very reasonable.
Anyway, thank you both. I will keep you in mind when I'm in need of a printed part.

I got one of those fibre glass print beds that you recommended , its good , thanks for the tip

I just found and printed an extruder mount on Thingiverse for the Ender 5 that sits the extruder on the top of the frame to shorten the Bowden tube , a really good mod , took 6 inches of the tube ! It does raise the overall height a bit but I can live with that . might be worth a try before you go direct drive .

Just did a test print of a Zerda front bulkhead with only 5.5mm retraction , it had some angel hair wisps on it but that's probably due to old damp PLA more than stringing ,the Bowden tube is 15inches between extruder and print bread not including inserted length ,that's very similar to my ender 3 .
