Re: Yo-clone-oh Dogfighter
I had a chance to have another look at the ABS gearbox I printed , I was surprised at the time that it ran tight , one half of the ABS gearbox mated up to the other half printed in PLA so I knew the shrinkage must be minimal ,on closer inspection two of the holes for the bearings had a little bebris , blobby bits left after printing in them , this was stopping the bearings fully seating , once removed it all fits together well , quite a relief ! I though I was going to have to cut and shut another .5mm into the gearbox design between the gears , not too hard but I glad I don't have to .
The nylon should arrive today but the printer is currently printing something for my daughter that's going to take another 6 hours , I though it would be done printing by now but we had a power cut last night and my Ender 3 no longer has power outage recovery so the print was lost and I had to start again this morning ...... So my toys will have to wait for her toys , I guess that's parenthood for you .

Re: Yo-clone-oh Dogfighter
Power out recovery never worked well for me. I only have experience with PLA which doesn’t care, but don’t Petg and nylon tend to pop off the bed as it cools? I run a ups on my ender 5 just in case of power outage. I haven’t mathed it out but it should keep it running for a good bit if the power fails (especially since I turn off my bed heat on longer prints)

How is the ender 5 , I've been looking at getting another printer , ideally a core-XY , I know the ender 5 is not true core-xy but its close , I was consideringGoMachV wrote: ↑Tue Aug 06, 2019 10:36 am Power out recovery never worked well for me. 1st choice Two Trees Sapphire S
2nd choice the ender 5
3rd choice the Tronxy X5SA but I've heard a lot of bad about it .
I'm really lookin for a good extruder , 24v power , core xy , auto bed levelling and ideally as big or bigger build area then the ender 3 .
Nothing in my price range ticks all the boxes but I'd be keen to hear about your ender 5.

Re: Yo-clone-oh Dogfighter
I started with a Malyan M200, super cheap (same as a monoprice min) but it made really decent prints.
My next was a CR10s. This was before the pro was an option. I upgraded it with a microswiss hot end, capricorn tubing, metal extruder, and a ezabl. I spend months trying to get a decent print. I got fed up and just kept trucking away with the M200. After removing the capricorn (too tight, was causing the extruder to skip), the extruder (the extruder was making marks on the filament causing it to bind even in the stock tubing), and the microswiss (couldnt stop getting blockages) I finally got a reliable print. It was ok, but the M200 still had a nice looking print, and was about the same speed.
The Ender 5 came out and after watching Nerys review it I had to have it. The form factor looked great, and fit well in my area. I built it in a couple hours, and was printing the same night. I have leveled the bed maybe 5 times in the year I have owned it. It ran stock for quite a while, until I finally put a MKS board in it- just for the silent part. Now it sounds like the very newest machines may come with the 1.1.6 silent board. The 5 is super reliable- I start a print and walk away. Come back in 10 and make sure first layer stuck, and then I leave until its done. I have had a couple failures but all in all it prints super reliably, and it has been very trouble free. I only use my CR10s when I absolutely have to, the 5 does everything else for me.
The Sapphire is a very cool printer. I watched Nerys' review of it as well and it appears to have a lot going for it. I too would eventually like a CoreXY, but I dont think the Sapphire will print as nicely for you as the 5 does and it has a smaller print volume. It sounds like Creality has something new coming soon- might want to hang for a bit and see what it is
If you want to buy a CR10s let me know
:lol
Oh, and just throwing it out there- a friend gave me his Prusa MK2 to rebuild for him. I did a couple test prints and can safely say my 5 prints MUCH better

Re: Yo-clone-oh Dogfighter
That all sounds very promising , if it came with a silent board I might be sold on it , my ender 3 prints very reliably but much over 60 mm per second and the quality drops , I just want more speed really , I can live without auto levelling and I'm very happy with the clone bondtech extruder I have so I could add one of those .
What makes you think the ender 5 would print better than the sapphire ?
Prusa printers out beyond my budget anyway .

Re: Yo-clone-oh Dogfighter
I watch all of nerys’ reviews. He prints a ton, always has stuff running. The 5 has blown him away in quality and precision. It is his go to printer. The sapphire was a good printer, he liked it, but the 5 was still the best he had used in that “class”. His reviews are first done live while he builds the machine and makes test prints. This are a good 8 hour or longer stream. Later he chops them up for a review to send to the mfr and for those that don’t want to sit through the 8 hour long review lol. Then he follows them up with a quick review showing some models and talking about issues. I usually have the live streams playing in the background while I work. He has mentioned that the sapphire is a great printer, but still prefers the 5; although there is no way I could find those segments.
Here is a quick review of the sapphire (FF to about 6 minutes in)
https://youtu.be/-KazA00-lqE
And here is a video of upgrading the ender 5 with TL smoothers (won’t need them with the better drivers of the silent board) and dampers (not needed with the silent board) but more importantly check out the beginning where he shows off some prints.

Thanks for going to the trouble of finding the clips , I've seen some on nerys you tube reviews and builds but its also good to hear from you first hand .

Re: Yo-clone-oh Dogfighter
one thing on the ender 5, you will need to remove the cmagnet surface if you are printing the higher temp stuff. I really like that surface but it’s only for pla. I am thinking of going to wham bam when it’s time for me to upgrade. It is so handy being able to pop the prints off by just flexing the surface. On my other machines I used glass, and killed a few prints just removing them lol.

Re: Yo-clone-oh Dogfighter
I have one of the borosilicate beds for my ender 3 that I'm currently not using because it weighs so much it means printing slower , it should go straight onto the 5 .

Re: Yo-clone-oh Dogfighter
The Nylon arrived yesterday but I was half way through upgrading my Ender 3 to dual Z axis stepper motors so I had no time to test the nylon but today I have printed my first nylon gear , it came out so well I'm printing the other 3 now

Re: Yo-clone-oh Dogfighter
Printing the other three gears together was a mistake , nothing too bad but there was a bit of stringing that needed cleaning up , no pictures I'm afraid but they are fitted and I've test run the gearbox out of the car , now its installed I'm going to test drive it tomorrow , see if it lasts 5 minutes or not .

Re: Yo-clone-oh Dogfighter
Just a little not update , weather has been crap and I've been a little too busy so no test drive yet , front drive shafts could arrive any time and I'm wondering weather to wait now until I have a chain as well so its a test of everything , I can't afford a chain till next month , its summer holidays so kids are absorbing all my spare cash and what's not spent is earmarked for driving lessons for my son , I really need that lottery win soon

Re: Yo-clone-oh Dogfighter
Well it was and still is "OFFICAL WORLD WIDE SILLY GRIN DAY"
The front shafts arrived today and fit perfectly , its still short of a chain so only rear wheel drive but she runs !

Dirty as well !

Oh the motor is just a cheap modern one with a sticker on it , the only genuine parts on the whole car are the rear shafts , the nylon gears run smoothly and very quiet , in fact its very quiet , no chain noise i guess , Vidio soon .

Re: Yo-clone-oh Dogfighter
Just a bit of fun , i modeled up a rough copy of a Bolink Funco half body , its not quite right , the cab is too long , this is printed in Vase or Spiral mode , just one layer or 0.4mm thick , printed in PLA as a test print so its quite brittle but it covers it over for now , only took 4 hours to print .

Re: Yo-clone-oh Dogfighter
Kyosho chain adapted sprockets designed , printed and tested , its a complete car !

I had a spare Kyosho chain so this was inevitable , fits well even through the chain guide , I've not checked if the chain guard on the side of the gearbox fits but it won't take much to adapt it .
