Any M3 modern Ballstuds compatible w. Original/rere Ballcups?
Hello Fellas
I'm working on getting some parts together for (another... sigh) project.
As the supply of original ballstuds (6271/3) has run dry the few lefts on the market are now fetching somewhat unreasonable prices,
(edit: to illustrate my point: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Team-Associated-20-Silver-Ballstud-Rod-End-Nut-Set-ASC6271/323786947083?epid=24027719541&hash=item4b6334ba0b:g:9MsAAOSwXI1cMl3Q)
what are compatible and easily available, and ideally metric (M3), newer ballstuds that work with the original and re-re'd rc10 ballcups, please? My bet goes to schumacher, possibly from older cars and legacy references, but I can't check it for sure...
in my western-european world, easily available means amain/tower, and possibly schumacher direct...
Thank you,
Paul

Re: Any M3 modern Ballstuds compatible w. Original/rere Ballcups?
I did a little research on this topic a few weeks ago.
The above mentioned AE ball studs are 4,3mm metric - so if You use 4,3mm combined with ball studs in Your search, some results should come up.
I ended up buying some fastrax (not described as 4,3mm) with cups from a uk seller. They´re a tad smaller than AE ball studs, but used with the included ball cups - they´re fine.
Edit: I just checked the Schumacher ball studs from sst 2000/cat 2000 - they have a good tight fit on the RPM heavy duty ball cups 73372 (Heavy duty rod ends 4-40)
Which are meant for AE if I´m not mistaken?

Yup Schumacher ball studs work: U3496 short, U3497 long. M3 threads 5.5mm hex, 4.3mm balls like Associated
Also U3495 extra short, U3498 extra long.

Wow,
Good thing I read this thread. Do I get this right, the only remaining manufacturers for 4.3mm ball studs are Schumacher and Kyosho (but K has a M5 thread)?
What size does Losi have? I don’t mind the imperial threading if the ball has the correct diameter.
I’ve always really liked the RPM ball cups, and have a current project where I will use them.
Thanks,
Tony

If you want metric threads, anything from the TC5/6/7 should fit RC10 size ballcups. This stuff is out there, most dirt oval cars and a lot of pan cars in the USA use that original size ball cup.
