How much is a NIB World's RC10 worth to you?
So I'm in Hong Kong on vacation and spotted a new World's re-release rc10 at a local shop. First time I've seen a NIB rc10 (I was late to the re-re period.) They're asking a cool $650usd. Are these really worth that much these days? How much were the re-re when they came out? How much would you pay? Not that I'm buying it, as I spent just as much restoring my own rc10 which I bash regularly, but I just thought I'd get a conversation going about it. How crazy are we with the $$$ we spend on these old cars??
Then: Clod Buster, Yokomo YZ10, Cobra 1/12, Kawada SV10
Now: Gold pan RC10, RC28, SC28, MT28, RC28T
Now: Gold pan RC10, RC28, SC28, MT28, RC28T

We generally don’t do valuations around here but since the question is more just a discussion, I’ll add my $.02.
The rere Worlds cars were sold at the end around the $150 range just to try to get rid of them, and a month after the were discontinued there were people getting $300 for them. Now I see them in completed listings for $280 to over $500 so the market is really unsure as to their value right now.
(Edited- I thought you said the kit in the shop was an original Worlds. As a rere, I’d expect to pay under 280)

I’ve seen some NISB worlds cars having to be re-listed on eBay at around us$500 if I’m not mistaken.
There are a couple asking around 600 now. Also a current auction is at 400 with two days to go, and a couple have been sold for 400 recently.
Built but never run are going for considerably less.
Personally this particular model doesn’t have the appeal of a gold pan to me. And since it’s a rerelease, I would rather buy two Kyosho rereleases for that money.

For comparison (and to stimulate this discussion further), what would an original (not a re-release) NIB Worlds car be worth?
Something clever goes here...

Originally I thought that was the question- that the one in the shop was an original. For those I’d expect to see them end $650-800 in a sealed box. Once you open it and see if it’s an early or late it may change (I’d expect the all black to be less valuable)ChisaiKuso wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2019 9:08 pm For comparison (and to stimulate this discussion further), what would an original (not a re-release) NIB Worlds car be worth?

Well, a NISB RC10 Worlds ReRe auction has just ended on ebay and seems to have gone for $406 "only". That's quite a bit less than the $650 you saw in HK.

It's Hong Kong.
They ain't shy to make a buck... especially off foreign tourists.

Otoh it's ok to bargain.
But if you're obviously foreign, you'll be paying more than a local regular.
It's a bit of an evil sport of mine... go hang around in Mongkok shops to people-watch... not unknown for tourist angmoh to pay HKD1500 for a kit, then watch another local buyer pay 1000 for the same 5mins later

(then I speak up & say I'll have one for a 1000 too

Headed to Hong Kong this weekend, which shops do you frequent? I’ve been to a couple in the area but always looking for others.
Thanks!
Thanks!

How difficult and costly is it to get an OG (1995ish vintage) NIB Worlds Car? I see one on ebay going for $1500. Is that the going rate or are they obtainable for less?

Re: How much is a NIB World's RC10 worth to you?
$1500 is a lot, but on the other hand they are becoming VERY rare. So it really depends on whether someone really wants to buy one or not.... all it takes for a crazy-price sale of these rare kits is one eager buyer and one greedy seller.
so why not?

Hey, I know this is an old thread, but how much would a NIB original (not re re) Cadillac version be worth? Purchased this in Japan early 90's (dead stock) and never have built it.
