Got some work done. Took my time and tapped parts and drilled out hinge pin holes.

Got a little more done today. I need to get the stealth tranny rebuilt so i can install it. Should be a roller by the end of the week. Then once I'm happy with everything I think I will tear it down to dye the printed parts. I was going to leave them but they are just so white.

Looks great! I pulled out a pair of brand new 10t arms and took a photo side by side. Onve you get them dyed it will really feel like it's coming together.

Yeah that looks so much better. I was just going to leave them white but it just doesn't look right. Just have to make sure and dye them properly.

I had the same thoughts about mine. The printed white parts didn't look right.

But I never dyed them and after 2 years on the shelf, the Shapeways parts have yellowed a little and are a bit closer to the other AE nylon parts on the car (battery boxes, trans case, etc). Not a total match, but close. I decided to leave the Nix parts 'as is'.

I pointed out the same thing in my own thread. I have 4-yr old shapeways parts which yellowed up. I didn't feel like waiting and since I used the premium material on the new parts I wasn't sure if it would behave the same way so decided to dye.

Ok so I got the back half assembled then it was to cold in the garage so I quit. I will assemble the front tommorow.

Well I was working on the front end and screwed up both castor blocks so I had to order new ones. So close yet so far away

Wow, that's disappointing; Shapeways can be really slow. Were you drilling-out the hinge pin holes, tapping ball stud holes or how are they messed up??

They were a little wider than the opening in my suspension arms so I was shaving them down on my belt sander and i shaved them down to uneven and had to remove to much material to even them out.

Okay so maybe you're using Niki's arms with Fred/Justin's caster blocks or is the other way around? I'm curious how these parts differ and what are the pitfalls when combining them. I think it's great that we have choices now as this could add a new level of individuality to everyone's builds.

They were all Fred and Justin's parts but the castor blocks were about a 1/16 of an inch wider than the arm opening.

Fred designed them to require a little grinding just the way the originals were. I was comparing the NIX castor blocks and they are noticeably larger. The same thing can be said of the bellcranks as The NIX are too long. You could certainly grind parts in some cases to get them to fit but the geometry would certainly be different.
