B3 Newbie questions

Post by MikefrMd »

Hello Everyone,

I just picked up a RC10B3 and had a couple questions.

I haven't owned a RC car since the 90's and that was a Blackfoot.

Are there crucial spare parts I should get?

Can I upgrade the radio and receiver to 2.4 ghz and will the Novak Duster sport esc work with a 2.4 radio?

Where can I get a body for it....do I need one made specifically for the B3?

Thanks for any help,

Mike

There are still parts out there for the RC10B3 on ebay, and there are groups on facebook dedicated to buying and selling of RC10 parts. Check out Old School RC and RC10 vintage chop shop on facebook. Those are just two of the groups I know, but there are a few more. Also a few online hobby shops still carry B3 parts.

For example: https://www.amainhobbies.com/team-associated-differential-rebuild-kit-rc10b3-t3-asc9351/p58119

The Thunder Tiger BX 2wd buggy also uses a lot of the same parts as the B3. Not all the parts are the same, but most are. Double check before ordering anything.

Hi Mike and welcome to RC10talk.com.

A B3 certainly is a big step up from a Blackfoot. I think you will enjoy running your new acquisition.

I have both a B2 and B3 that I run occasionally on my backyard track for the past few years. I've only broken two parts (a front arm and the front top plate) and it was the result of an unfortunate encounter with a tree. OLDRC.com has both of these items.
You can upgrade all electronics to modern Lipo, brushless, and 2.4 ghz and your vintage ESC should work with a modern radio system. I'm still running an old Novak T4 with an AE Xp 2.4 ghz system in one of my old gold pan cars. If your car is running bushings, you may want to upgrade to ball bearings; this will make your car run more efficiently, handle more precisely, and last longer.

Check OLDRC or Team Blue Groove on ebay for vintage RC bodies. Other bodies may work (after some creative trimming) but an actual B2 or B3 body will fit your car best.
Please feel free to post some pics of your car. :D

Thank you Joey and Doug for the help.

I will contact those vendors after the holidays as it appears that they are closed until after Christmas.

Hi MikefrMd and as above welcome to the board.

OLDRC.com/Sabulatech is a vendor right here on the board in our business section that was mentioned above so you can drop him a PM right through the board about parts or bodies anytime. He's pretty quick to reply and easy to deal with. IIRC he has a b3 mold but not sure if he has pulled any bodies off of it. Might be able to search his business section to see if he has the molds or you might have to go back to TBG on ebay if he doesn't.

I personally prefer the b3 over my b4 in the past and love running mine. Info above is spot on from my experience also. Front c-hub and steering knuckles are the only things I'd add if it wasn't already said. Mine break from hard landings on the front (read cartwheel into this  ). As far as the body goes I'd stick to one made for the b2/b3 because they fit the chassis so much better and keep the dirt out vs. using like a bomber body or at truck body on one. If you aren't running where its dusty or very dirty then whatever you can find to put on one would work with a little bit of finagaling 8)

My buggy arrived today and noticed the tires are dry rotted.

I would like to replace both front and rear tires and wheels....are they still available? I may have to use the old wheels and put new rubber on them ...I assume thats possible.

Can I use any 2.2 tire....Do you guys have any suggestions?

I have bought a charger and batteries.

Thanks guys

I'm not an expert, just getting back into it like you are. But here's some suggestions based on what I've been learning:

Your 2.2 inch wheels are great since there are lots of tire options. Any 2.2 tires should fit, but there are three different sizes: 2WD front tires, 4WD front tires, and rear tires. Since the B3 is a 2WD buggy (right?), you just need to find 2.2 2WD front tires, and 2.2 rear tires.

Based on some reviews I've been reading, Pro-line Racing tires are well liked. Here are their buggy tires for 1/10th scale cars:

https://www.prolineracing.com/1-10-buggy-tires/

I just picked up some of these since they perform well on a variety of surfaces:

I haven't actually worked with 2.2 wheels/tires before, but apparently you're suppose to use some CA glue to adhere the tires to the wheels:

Hope this helps!
