Sealing Nitro USA-1 Diffs?

Post by Jim511 »

I've been slowly rebuilding and modding a Nitro USA-1 in my spare time. I found and purchased the steel gears for the front and rear differentials, and upon some research on here decided to fill the diffs with oil vs grease. However, even with brand new seals, the diffs have been leaking oil. Am I doing something wrong? I only installed 1 seal before installing the gear, and they are tight. Does anyone have any recommendations on sealing better to prevent leaking? Thanks

Hey Jim,

The older diffs with two spider gears don't have a very good seal to begin with. You can probably make a better flange your self, but you can
at least apply "silicone cement" on either side of the flange and around the screws, as per the instructions in the Turbo Inferno manual (same diffs but with 4 spider gears and two o-rings where the joint shafts exit). The T.Inferno is the first one with an honest effort to keep silicone in the diffs and a recommendation to do so. You also need to apply a heavy grease between the shaft joints and diff case holes.
