Kyosho USA-1 Nitro Crusher

Post by Dangeruss »

In 1990 Kyosho, under license from USA-1 4x4 Inc., introduced a 1/8 scale 4wd nitro powered version of the full-size USA-1 monster truck. Rather than base the nitro model off the simultaneously released 1/10 electric USA-1 monster truck, with its roots dating back to the 1987 Big Brute, Kyosho decided instead to use their larger 1/8 Burns 4wd 0ff-road buggy to underpin the new combustion powered behemoth. Resultingly the Nitro Crusher came equipped with a plate aluminum chassis and nylon constructed four-wheel independent, camber adjustable, double a-arm suspension. A twin bellcrank steering system with spring loaded servo saver and adjustable tie rods resided under a reinforcing aluminum joint plate just ahead of the plastic radio tray that held all the necessary electronics. The .21 sized engine, situated midship in the chassis, sent power through a centrifugal clutch actuated pinion and spur to the centrally mounted bevel gear diff before a pair of metal dog bones directed the grunt to front and rear mounted bevel gear differentials, themselves housed inside sealed gearcases that doubled as suspension bulkheads. Once past the differentials steel front universal axles and dogbone rears passed the ponies through aluminum front knuckles and nylon rear hub carriers. It was at this point the USA-1 began to deviate from the Burns both mechanically and visually. Taller aluminum plate shock towers front and rear held a total of eight Kelron bodied, oil-filled coilover shock absorbers with new lower shock pivots at each corner to make room for the suspensions double shock per corner arrangement. Aluminum finished 2.8 nylon wheels were wrapped in 6.5x4.13x3-0-KC chevron pattern tires and mounted high above the chassis was a highly detailed clear lexan 1990 Chevrolet Silverado body with chrome bumpers, grille, twin tube roll bar, off-road lights, mirrors and triple Predator style carburetors with air cleaners and top covers. A full set of USA-1 decals to replicate the full-size trucks livery were also included as was a disk brake system, mini front bumper, fuel tank, muffler, and a combination of bearings and metal bushings. The unassembled kit however did not include the required OS-21 RFB or ENYA 21 CXL engine, radio, or electronics:
