I don't have a horse in this race, but the guys at Tamiyaclub are either embracing this or losing their minds over it. A lot of interesting discussion over intellectual property theft and such.

It seems odd to me that Tamiya has so far remained silent on this matter. The guy at ampro made a video showing the difference between the real and clone bodies which confirms they didn't come from the same molds. So, it appears to be a case of IP theft but why is there no push-back from Tamiya? Maybe they don't care. Odd!

Or, maybe Tamiya are powerless to do anything so they'd prefer that this matter will die quietly and quickly.

What did Tamiya do back in the day when the Royal Rip-off (Ripper) and Killer buggies came out as knock-offs of the Hotshot and Fox, and probably numerous other clones? It's an honest question, I don't know. Kyosho was ripped off a bunch too with the Bluebird Baja Growler and Great Vigor Beagle knock-offs of the Optima.
Completed projects: CYANide Onroad Optima | Zebra Gold Optima | Barney Optima | OptiMutt RWD Mid
Gallery - Coel's Stalls: Marui Galaxy & Shogun Resto-Mods | FrankenBuff AYK Buffalo | 1987 Buick GNX RC12L3

Good question. There was a Super Shot knock off and a TXT-1 clone too, both very close to the originals. From what I remember, they just faded away like they were only one production run or something. Curious if Tamiya goes after these copies the way they cracked down on the repro decals and such years back (but have now relaxed on).
