Ronbo's MIP 4-10 SP2 4WD RC10

Well, I have been wanting to do this for awhile now since I first saw this forum. I knew I was going to put my original A stamp RC10 together, and after digging through my box of stuff (I sold a lot in early 2000's stupidly) I ran across a lot of parts I kept. But during this build, I found I don't have a lot of parts either! Anyway, I bought this from my racer friend when I was home on leave in the early 90s. We had raced when I was a teenager (or I actually just was an also ran really at that time). A lot of my parts still had the original North Carolina clay dirt smell on them. Ahhh, memories...
I believe I ran a couple batteries through it, then put it away and eventually I disassembled it. 4wd wasn't popular, though I somehow bought a YZ10 and modified it a lot with what I could. I did win an oval race with the Yoke, but that's for a different thread.

Actually no. Still selling. More in progress pictures for the build coming later. I had a theme I was going to do on this one, but I would rather have a couple Yokomos as I actually did more with that than this 4-10 4wd. I may still do a 4TEN conversion tho...

X2 on this comment. Yokomos are plentiful, MIP 4wd’s are not. In a few years from now you’ll be posting that you wished you kept it.

You guys are probably right, I may miss it one day. IF it were a Legend, then I think I probably would keep it and go with the theme I had planned for this one. I came to the conclusion that this would be a shelfer due to its rarity and I would rather have one I could run from time to time. I'm probably (?) one of the few here who have ran it at one time, but I don't remember how it handled. Yokes are definitely more plentiful, but even so aren't as easy as RC10s. Even RC10s, getting parts with my impatience, is annoying. I had thought about just selling the conversion parts and keeping the RC10 parts as those mean more to me than the conversion.... I know, weird..
Which is why I documented my build for the first time, so be gentle. If the 'bay doesn't pan out, I can always improve it as I had originally planned.

Here are the pictures of the transmissions front and rear. Nothing interesting on the rear, other than shavings from the metal to metal contact of the alloy geartrain. I applied some MIP diff grease I still had to the balls in diff gear, and the bearings are very nice.

The front gearbox is very good other than the top shaft gear which has a crack. I couldn't find any info on this here other than the ebay auction mentioning the same issue. Reassembly took some trial and error as it must be assembled correctly due to the way the bottom diff is machined. But I got it.

Pictures of the suspension arms and bulkhead.

I had to modify and original bulkhead, as for some reason I didn't have the one that I had used... I used the 4-10 Legend instructions here on site which show exactly where to drill vs the original documents for my SP2 setup.
Yes, I know the holes in the fiberglass plate are horrible. But its just fiberglass, no biggie.
The nose plate is my original first nose plate, but I don't remember ever running it other than for this conversion. My first RC10 was setup with a Hot Trick front, so I just had this laying around back then... Don't judge the young poor me from back then....

I once drilled out all the molded webbing on my Kyosho Raider arms to make it lighter!!! I was convinced it would improve my run time.

Here is a picture of the front outdrives and knuckles with the one way bearing inside the Yokomo style wheel adapters. Of particular notice is the extension of the universals using a wing tube or similar. I happen to have a ZC421 outdrives NIP that are the same length from bone end to universal area. So, it should fit thus eliminating the one way outdrives. (since the car is now fully assembled, I will need to try this soon.)

Shots of the original bottom load rear shocks installed, dogbone outdrives with RC10T hubs sporting Shapeways TH-1 adapters. I was going to use RPM yokomo carriers, but I wanted to keep them for later. Transmission mounted and belt fed through. Front end arms and outdrives mounted.

Shots of the car assembled. I found out I just didn't have the one part needed to installed the right MIP metal bellcrank or the right screw for the left. Thus, I couldn't install the tie rods properly. If anyone knows what I can order, since I still have a Houge one for my other RC10s Id appreciate the info. The tires are CRP Schumacher fronts with Schumacher rears on 2.0 yoke rims. I like the look, very aggressive with the vintage original tires on the Yoke rims.
