Restoring my RC-10 B3

Hello everyone, I am looking for some help and advice in restoring my Dad's old RC-10 B3, it hasn't been running for years, but I believe with a new motor and electronics it will be working perfectly.

I was wondering if there are any other changes I should make to strengthen the car, I am looking into eventually going racing with it. I've researched about upgrading the hubs to fit modern wheels but thats really as much as I have seen. I have been a RC Car enthusiast for years and I have always wanted to revive this car, my Dad always said there was no point but i'd love to see it going again(especially considering I was the one that broke it years ago as a child )

Money is a bit of a problem on this build, but thats why I am looking into just buying parts when I can afford them, any help is much appreciated!

You actually have a B2, not a b3. While they look similar, there are more than a few differences.

If you are on a budget I would tear the car down and rebuild it the way it is. I'm sure it will work fine to nuts around with for now, the only thing i see is you are missing a motor (unless you have one and it's just not in the car). You can upgrade as money allows. But, rebuilt the shocks, trans, clean the bearing, etc and have fun with it for awhile.

One good thing, it looks like you already have 3/16" rear axles which will make using the modern 2.2 wheels and tires much easier. You will just have to pick up a pair of the wide GT front axles (asc7222) to run rc10b4 front wheels. Unfortunately, the axles are discontinued now, so the easiest way to get them is like this.

There are plenty of budget friendly brushless setups out there. Same with lipo batteries. Good, cheap packs are easily found. Chargers too.

Thankyou so much for your help, I'll be sure to look into all of this asap. One thing I'd like to know, what is the B2 like in racing nowadays? Can it keep up with the more modern buggys? And also how much potential does this car have if well looked after and upgraded?(speed and handling wise.)

The car has good capability. Modern off road is basically bumpy/jumping on hard packed clay or carpet. So there are some newer cars with mid motor that will handle better on carpet(for sure). If you are a good driver, you will be able to drive the car and be competitive, but you might not be able to get within those last precious tenths of seconds at the top of the pack against the more modern cars.

One thing you don't have compared to modern cars, is readily available replacement parts. They aren't necessarily fragile, but if you lose an arm or mount, you will have to find replacements, which will be harder to do. If you do plan to race it, stock up on spares. Ebay or other online sites; if you are lucky, you might find parts in bargain bins at local shops.

Okay thankyou, at this current time I’m just doing lots of research because I’m not used to this car. I know what I need to get so when I can afford it I’ll be sure to buy and piece together what I can and then come back to this forum after. Is there anything else I should know before I start on this project?

I have both B2 and B3. Last summer I clipped a tree and broke a B2 front arm, had a difficult time finding replacements then paid a premium when I found them. B2 had a short production run and the arms are unique to that model so spares are difficult to find and pricey. By contrast, B3 production lasted longer so parts are relatively plentiful and cheap as chips. In fact, last time I looked, some parts are still available directly from AE (I stocked up). You might consider temporarily swapping your arms with B3 and keep your nice B2 arms safely in a box in the event that you'll want to restore the car to original some day. B3 front arms are a tad wider than B2 but are otherwise a direct fit.

Okay thanks, is there anything else I should upgrade to newer model parts? I just want to find out everything I should do to it before I start buying the more expensive parts, my brushless kit is gonna be expensive
Also just a small question, do you think that me restoring this car is actually worthwhile?

b2 b3 are identical for all practical purposes chassis wise. the arm lengths changed. look at the picture in the link, it's very apparent.

If it were me, since it's your dad's old car, I wouldn't mess with it too much (i'm a sentimental guy ). I would either restore it and display it, or build it up a little bit for some occasional vintage fun on the racetrack.

If you want to get into racing, I'd buy something newer.

Well it was my Dad's but basically its my car now as he doesn't care about what happens to it. I'm not really sure what I'd like to do as yet, because my location isn't near any race tracks. I'm honestly just looking for a bit of fun, and would be good to see the B2 up and running again like old times. From looking at the photos I attached how much do you think it would cost for me to restore and get it running perfectly?

That is a nice B2, wish mine had the Lunsford Racing turnbuckles and MIP cvds.
