Re: Tomorrow I Race Again
Position is important but sometimes it comes down to luck. I recall one race (carpet oval) where I qualified somewhere mid pack in the B. I was able to win the B so I bumped to the A - last position. There were about 12 cars in the A and I just had a gut feeling these guys are likely going to pile up at the end of the first straight. So at the buzzer, I did a one count before leaving then carefully picked my way through the carnage and the marshal's feet, took the lead, drove as smooth as I could and won. Racing is very addictive. Once you've tasted success, you're hooked.

Re: Tomorrow I Race Again
Congrats on the recent victory! I can relate on recapturing that feeling to be racing again, it is awesome
Glad to hear you picked up a B6, and on turf you pretty much have everything you need straight out of the box.
As for motors, you pretty much can't go wrong with any of the current generation motors, Reedy, Motiv, R1, or Fantom. My personal recommendation is the Reedy S-Plus 17.5 https://www.amainhobbies.com/reedy-splus-competition-spec-brushless-motor-17.5t-asc27402/p723878 with the Motiv MC2 a close second http://motivrc.com/store/#!/MC2-17-5T-PRO-TUNED-SPEC-MOTOR-2-Pole-540/p/51554183/category=13438638
I'm curious to see your thoughts on the B6 on turf when you get it going.
Oh yeah, and pics too please

Re: Tomorrow I Race Again
The Mach 3 is a solid motor as well, I have a few.
Run it out of the box and see what you think, then when you are ready bump up the timing to ~48 degrees and add a fan. You'll be smiling, I guarantee

If you really want to geek out you can pick up a motor analyzer and fine tune your timing https://www.rcjuice.com/skyrc-brushless-motor-analyzer-motor-checker.html. Shoot for 6A of draw, which as I mentioned above tends to be ~48 degrees of timing on that motor.

Re: Tomorrow I Race Again
I have been eyeballing the fan that is built into the waterfall that I saw on ebay. As far as weight placement, it looks like a better option for mounting a motor cooling fan than other setups I've seen. Can't seem to find anyone who has tried it. I'm curious about the quality.

Re: Tomorrow I Race Again
I ended up going with this mount: http://rcspeedsecrets.com/rcss-associated-b6-laydown-aluminum-fan-mount-with-wtf-30mm-motor-fan-combo-the-answer-by-rcss/. Nice and light, and surprisingly solid mounting for such a small mount. I did end up trimming my body a bit to allow better airflow, and my motor stays ice cold now.Basher67 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 19, 2018 6:56 pm I have been eyeballing the fan that is built into the waterfall that I saw on ebay. The waterfall mounts affect the flex characteristics of the chassis, and as you mentioned, some of the 3D printed plastic ones have durability issues.

I do... And will upload it, when I get home, if I ever get home...
At least sitting in the airport has allowed me to get caught up on the forums

Re: Tomorrow I Race Again
Last minute trip to Bellevue for the week for work. I usually get up to the Seattle/Bellevue area about once a quarter. Maybe one of these times we could do dinner or something with all the Seattle area folk. I also want to check out Tacoma R/C Raceway as well someday.

Re: Tomorrow I Race Again
Nice. Thanks for the tip. I talked to some guys at the track today during practice. Quite a few of them are taking the fans off their esc and mounting them in the same location as yours for the motor. They say the speed control doesn't get hot running a 17.5 motor, but during the hot summer months, the motor heats up from running it full throttle all the time.

Re: Tomorrow I Race Again
You can definitely do that if your ESC came with a fan. The Reedy ESC fans are optional, so I only run them on my modified class rides. And yes, as mentioned, you don't have to worry about ESC temps for 17.5.Basher67 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 20, 2018 6:09 pm Nice. Thanks for the tip. I talked to some guys at the track today during practice. PS> Post some pics of your B6 when it's done!
