Team Car body hole locations
Team Car body hole locations
Guys I've come to the point where I need to fit the new body to my Team Car rebuild.
Can anybody post some pictures of where the holes should be located? Specifically the rear wing tube holes.
I suspect that the original body, which came with the car, has the holes in the wrong place. The rear of the cockpit sits on top of the rear shock tower, rather than slipping down between the tower and the wing tubes as I suspect it should.
The body is already painted and there are no markings on it to indicate where the holes should be.

Ah, drilling the mounting holes in a body that's pre-painted can be a little tricky. Which body are you going with? Can you post some pics of the body that has holes in the wrong location?

Re: Team Car body hole locations
A helpful trick is to put a dab of black grease on the body posts, put the body on and lightly press it down onto the posts. When you take the body off the grease mark indicates where the holes should be. Just beware that the front one will likely need a bit of adjustment forward from the mark due to the angled post.

You could cut everything but the holes, then put small piece double sided tape or something like play doh on the post and see where they end up on the body then ream a hole there.
Re: Team Car body hole locations
It's a reproduction Viper body that I've got. It is already painted as the car wasn't assembled enough to test fit and mark holes at the time I sent it to my friend to paint.
I'm ok with methods for marking where the holes should go.
I was more interested in seeing where the wing tube holes should be. On the shell the car came with, I think they are 4-5mm too far back. Causing the vertical face, at the rear of the shell cockpit, to sit on top of the shock tower.
I'll grab a pic of the old shell when I can.
The area forward of the wing tube holes was actually a little split and splintered. So I've done a little trimming and can now fit the original shell so that it sits nice and low over the rear shocks.
I'd just like to see some examples of other shells in that area so I can see if I'm on the right lines before I take a hole reamer to the new shell.

Re: Team Car body hole locations
this...
I'll take a pic of a well-positioned Viper in a short while

Watchout as the repop bodies sometimes are of a slightly different size... your best bet is to "ovalize" the front mounting hole, which is needed because of the angled post anyway.

Yeah I was aware of the need to tweak the front hole a bit. But I'm thinking the rear is most important as getting that right will dictate where the front will sit.
A pic would be much appreciated

Re: Team Car body hole locations
That's what I thought. Thanks for confirming.
What are the best sizes to drill for the various holes?

Thanks for that. Confirms what I thought and what has been said earlier.
Looks like the wing tube holes are 6 or 7mm, with the rear post hole being around 8mm?
