Any other pics of this prototype 834B?
I was just thumbing through the Euro magazine scans on Retromodelisme.com and noticed this pic of an early prototype 834B in the Dec '82 issue of Auto RCM.
Tried searching for more info on it and turned up an article on another prototype from this site: http://59burst.blogspot.com/2010/12/yz-834b-prototype-images.html but it's clearly a different version. Anyone have links to pics/info on the Auto RCM article car? My Yokomo knowledge is very limited, and it's my first time seeing this prototype.

That's an earlier step in the evolution than I've seen before by the look of it , it's has a chain from the motor for the first reduction gear and the roll bar is not aligned with the trailing arm pivots . Thanks for sharing this little gem .
If a jobs not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well.

Doen't have any info on the 834B prototype
but the description of the pic n°1 says:
"Another electric 4wd from ABC Hobby. Less creative than the Kyosho but more simple."

Re: Any other pics of this prototype 834B?
It's such a different version of the 834B that I want to start calling it the 834A. I've been doing my head in trying to figure out the drive line on that thing. First, the motor is centered and flipped around in the opposite direction to how it ended up in production. Next, it doesn't look like there's a shaft going from the large sprocket directly into the transmission case. There is a shaft going into the transmission but it looks off center from the large sprocket so I'm guessing there's probably a gear behind the large sprocket that turns another gear on the shaft going into the transmission. If that's the case then it makes me think there may also be a chain drive inside the transmission to get the wheels spinning in the right direction. That shaft could then go through the transmission, past the motor endbell, and have another sprocket on that end for the chain drive to the front wheels.
And for the final kicker....if there is a chain drive inside that trans case, then the drive line in this "834A" would actually be closer to the drive line that ended up in the 870C than the one that ended up in the 834B.

If you haven't read the full article you can find it here: http://www.retromodelisme.com/page_magazine/9697/auto-rcm-15-dec-1982-page-64.html
I can't read French but I didn't notice any mention of Yokomo when I scanned the article. The RC-12 sticker on top of the roll bar is definitely from a Yoke car though so I'm assuming the ABC Hobby credit was just an error by the reporter.

I read the entire article and there's nothing about this car in it, sorry.
You're probably right for the reporter's error.
I'm curious too, I enlarge the pic :

It's very hard to see how the transmition to the front is routed , the suspension seems all as it ended up though.

Drew some arrows to what I think might be the chain to the front wheels...though if it is the front sprocket would be shifted way left of where it was on the production car. It be in between the upper and lower left arms instead of inside the front bulkhead.

I don’t know, that exists on the other side too if I’m seeing it correctly. I think it has an upper deck made of g10

Re: Any other pics of this prototype 834B?
I'm not seeing an upper deck. I see what looks like two aluminum rods that go from the back of the upper arm's inner hinge pin, under the driver, and to the bulkheads that the motor attaches to and the matching one on the other side. What I drew the arrows pointing to looks further out than those rods.
The other prototype car in the blogspot link doesn't have an upper deck or rods.

This is the area that made me think it was an upper chassis

This is why we need more pics.
Here's where I'm seeing the start of the rods. Top two lines are just highlighting the left arm though. ...and here are the backs of the two rods. Also got a green arrow pointing to what I think is the other end of the roll bar to show you can see through the space between the rods.

I agree with phin on the top braces tubes.
I'm not sure how the drive is getting to the front, but the white spot on the back arm just looks like light through the slot.
Would be very cool if someone talked to Gil losi or masami.

Still not a good enough reason for me to have a Facebook account.

I assumed I was late to the game and Yokomo historians already knew everything there was to know about this car.
