So it's been around 15 years since I've done any rc racing. I was doing some semi regular nitro sedan racing around 2002 or so. Haven't been in any kind of organized off road race since the early 90's. There is a nice indoor offroad turf track about 30 min. from my house that I've been practicing on about once a week for the last month or two. They're supposed to have a decent showing every Sunday for racing. Tomorrow will be my first race. Time for me to get back in the saddle. The track owner told me my lap times are on parr with the regular novice class runners. I have no doubt that I will be getting lapped by some 12 year old tomorrow I expect it will be a ton of fun and I'm planning on making it a weekly event. I've been playing with different tires and suspension adjustments on my Factory Team 4.2T and I think I have it reasonable close. I'll try to remember to take some picks of the track as it's a very cool setup. I'll let you guys know how I did when I get back tomorrow!
Your down south from me a ways- what track are you headed to?
Have fun tomorrow! I haven’t raced in years but I still remember the sounds like it was yesterday!
“Corner corner corner!!!”
“Who’s on 76?”! Turn off your radios”
Hahaha

Yeah I'm pretty excited. Even though I know that I'm far from being competitive yet. I'm going to Poorboys Raceway & Hobbies in Grants Pass. They have a great track. They put on a few big races throughout the year that attract racers from all over and every Sunday there is a local "club racing" scene. I've yet to see how many entrants there are on Sundays. They don't run an ST class, but in the novice class, it's sort of a run what you got situation to make it easy for new racers to get into the hobby, so they said it was ok to run my truck. If/when I advance to the mod class, I'll have to get myself a new buggy. Everything I have is at least 25 years too old to be competitive. It's amazing to see the evolution of racetracks. The configuration of the track right now has a 180 degree hairpin that goes vertical up the wall about 10 ft or so!
Well, I'm back from the race. The picture tells the story. This happened at the beginning of the third 5 min. heat. It was a learning experience for sure. The biggest lesson was to race with the same tires you practice with. Don't try something new on race day. Going from some old Losi step pins to the purpose made turf tires in the pic, was akin to training in a piper cub and then being handed a jet. Overall it was a ton of fun with a great group of friendly folks and I will be back to race again next weekend, as long as my new chassis arrives in time. I forgot my camera so I clicked off this pick of the track with my phone.
Ouch! That's a common problem since the chassis is very narrow and weak in that area. I've had two break that way (SC10 and B4.1) until I reinforced the chassis with an aluminum plate. I think someone over at the RCShortCourse.com forum was selling the plates. Anyway, it sounds like you had fun and that's what matters most. Please don't forget your camera next week; we wanna see some action shots.
That looks like a good part to add to the new chassis. It wasn't bad really. A new chassis cost me $18 and the nose brace was $4 at the hobby shop. Total destruction fixed for $22 isn't bad at all. To be fair to the truck, I did come off that wall ride at the top and nose dived straight to the ground. I new I was finished for the day before it hit the ground. I'll try my best to remember my camera. Next time, the wife should be with me, so I'll try to get her to record some of the action.
I might have broken a B4.1 bitd like that actually, now that I'm thinking about it
Sorry to hear that you first race after 15years didn't quite go as planned... try again next time and drive safely

Life is short. Waste it wisely.
Ha! I've done that to a T4 myself. I probably jumped about 11 feet of a 12 gap between doubles. I epoxied it back together to finish the day since it was part of a points series.
At least you probably had some good style points on the half-pipe...err... I mean, wall ride!
Got that brace from DE Racing today. Awesome product. Perfect fit and easy install with the supplied drill bit. It makes this weak section of the chassis noticeably stronger. Thanks for the tip on this part Tamlok. So I'm ready to get back on the track! I just bought a new "shorty" lipo, got the new turf tires mounted, and I'm headed to the track tomorrow for some practice before the race on Sunday.
It's a Gens ACE 5000mah 2s 60c. A bunch of the guys at the track use them and seem to be happy with them. At $50, I figured I would give one a try. I'll probably pick up another one this weekend while I'm there. I had to solder up some 4mm bullet connectors onto my esc battery leads, but it's about a 2 oz. weight loss over the batteries I've been using.
I have this coming in the mail tomorrow. This will be only the second one I have ever had. I think it's a 300 but not positive. The car has rear independent suspention and belt drive. Any help identifying it would be great....

I posted this one up a few years ago. Note the Jrx2 steering link turnbuckle and the incorrect (short a-arm version) rear tower with trailing arms installed. :)
If the url above ever croaks I can link to my Drive.
I have been offered an F1 car to drive on our local carpet track and I am considering it but have never raced anything but off road. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions to help with the driving difference between carpet and off road? I spent...

I just about signed on the dotted line with McLaren, but did not want to give up my trophies! Holding out for Ferrari! 8)
Back into your Marussian Rod, Ferrari ride is mine
OK, my first race ever is less than 24 hrs away. I am racing in an indoor 1/10 scale 2wd and i got my old but newer rc10 ready to compete. Also, locally, they have a off road 2wd stadium truck race which I can run my rc10 truggy thingy with my mamba...
I recently acquired a T2 in great condition and I want to race it with some of the T4's running around here. Currently, I have a 9.5T motor with a HW 60A esc. I'm looking more for shock setup and such. What are you gents running and general gearing...
After going through a couple paint jobs I have decided on race colors for my runners. The paint job is not perfect but I am very happy with the results. The cars look great next to each other. Now I just need to fix the RC10 and the Jrx2.

The paint job is sharp looking. Good job with your bodies there.
