Re: Trannies on the corner...
Well, okay. Listen, while we wait, how about sending the tranny to me and I will use in my
WOIN build? There’s no need to let it set on the shelf and collect dust. I promise to return it to you when you’re ready. No? Okay, I understand.
Anyway, that tranny’s gonna look great in whatever you decide to build around it. So, you’ve built a killer 6-gear and Stealth, what’s next on the list; belt, chain??

Re: Trannies on the corner...
Haha... Yeah, I've been eyeing those on ebay and would love to scoop one up for a future build.
So I have gears, a few belts and and a couple chains but right now I'm tinkering with belts (and re-living the good ole days). So, yeah, please do a belt build next? Can the B1M accommodate a belt transmission?

Re: Trannies on the corner...
I can only speak for the lethal weapon, and it won’t go mid motor. The pullies inside use a tensioner on the slack side, and that would be a problem when it’s running flipped around. The chances of skipping are a little higher but moreso there are efficiency problems running that way

Re: Trannies on the corner...
Yeah, I reckon the tensioner position would present some problems using it in a reverse rotation mid configuration. Hey, have you ever considered using eccentrics for belt tensioning? Oh wait, Traxxas probably stole that idea from Schumacher and has patented it.GoMachV wrote: ↑Tue Nov 14, 2017 8:28 pm I can only speak for the lethal weapon, and it won’t go mid motor. Re: Trannies on the corner...
Yeah eccentrics are a great way to go, but these were designed back in the 90’s, when it was easier to wrap tape around the idler to tension it up

Wrap tape around the idler...
I could probably get some delrin rod and machine some idlers oversized, say, in 0.020" increments? Just thinking... which is a dangerous think for me to be doing!

Re: Trannies on the corner...
It was more of a quick fix for belts that had stretched but it was really easy

Re: Trannies on the corner...
Hmmm... What kind of tape? Is the tension idler a bearing (like the TPS one) or is a turned metal or molded plastic wheel?

Re: Trannies on the corner...
Injection molded nylon supported by bearings in the case.
Just scotch tape. Nothing special. Just gotta wrap it the right direction or things can get messy

Re: Trannies on the corner...
Ah, I got it. So it's not adjustable and positioned in the cases to provide the correct tension - at least until the belt stretches then break out the tape. I donno, adjusting your belt tension with ordinary tape has a certain charm about it. I bet Masami would do that.

Finally, after waiting for two weeks for the thrust bearing and washers to arrive from Canada, the 6-gear is finished.

Awesome! This one looks like a trailing arm car - very cool. When will we see the rest of the build?
