My "Left Over Parts" Buggy
As I constantly add to my collection and build the cars I want, I have accumulated a pretty good collection of parts, especially RC10's. This buggy was built almost entirely from extra parts I had laying around. I did buy the body new for another chassis but it didn't fit right so ended up on this chassis unpainted for a while. I had the new A&L trans from a collection I bought and never used it. Some parts, like the tecnacraft airfoil wing and quick release mounts, I've had laying in a box and didn't even know what they were until posting them in our "what is it" thread. Anyway, It started turning into a complete buggy, so I decided to take some pics and let everyone see it. Maybe some of you will know what these rear wheels/tires are. As you can see in the pics, they are considerably narrower than your average buggy rear wheel/tire. They look like proline wheels and the tires are Proline Champion. If they were hex mount, I would have thought they were kyosho fronts but there's no mistaking 1/4" Associated rear mount. Still need to install a slipper/spur combo. I don't have any experience with A&L so I don't know yet if any of the associated parts will work or if I need to get one from A&L. The Reedy Tru Stock motor was another "laying around" piece. Hope you guys enjoy the pics.

Re: My "Left Over Parts" Buggy
that is a super sweet buggy! TQ10 chassis and nice clean plastics. Did you paint the body?
Can't help on the rear wheels except to agree look like proline.

Very nice buggy!
You can get a slipper/power clutch from GoMachV. Jeff is a member of the forum and carries on the A&L/Factory Works line.

Re: My "Left Over Parts" Buggy
I think those are Race Master wheels. If the wheels have a circle of little "pimples" around the 6 holes then they're Pro-Line, but if not then RM.

Re: My "Left Over Parts" Buggy
No pimples on the wheels. Why so narrow? Back in the day on dirt tracks I never needed LESS traction. On offroad carpet tracks they might make sense but seems like it would hurt performance on dirt.

Re: My "Left Over Parts" Buggy
Good call on the little rivet "pimples".
I had to go back and look at my other cars with similar wheels. They all had the pimples except these ones. Also noticed very slight lines around the circumference of the wheels all over the surface. Almost like they were machined instead of molded. Or the mold was machined and the lines transferred during the molding process. Tried to get a good pic of it, but couldn't seem to capture it with the camera.

Re: My "Left Over Parts" Buggy
I have some of those rear wheels also.

I was looking for the prolines but they will do until I find them.
Those front wheels look like they match the rears, similar machined finish?
Does anyone know the part number of the similar prolines?

Definitely Race Master if they are machined.Basher67 wrote: ↑Thu Sep 14, 2017 5:18 pm Good call on the little rivet "pimples".I had to go back and look at my other cars with similar wheels. Your rears look like RM too, but those fronts are from CRP. Greenish and 8-holes vs. 6 on the Pro-Line and RM.bluewormx wrote: ↑Thu Sep 14, 2017 5:54 pm I have some of those rear wheels also.

There's a '91 PL catalog in the scans section you can find the part numbers in: http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=7825

Thanks Phin,
The pepper pot proline wheels don't seem to be in that catalogue.
They where from around 1987 maybe they where discontinued by 1991.

Re: My "Left Over Parts" Buggy
My fronts match the rears. Same machined finish. I'm confident now that they are Race Masters. When compared side by side to the prolines, they seem to be a much better quality and sturdier wheel. I still don't understand the concept of the narrow design though.

Re: My "Left Over Parts" Buggy
Thanks.
It's starting to come together a little at a time. I wasn't really planning on building another RC10 at the moment. Most of these parts I had planned on installing in my CE, but these things tend to multiply around here like gremlins with water on them.

Great looking buggy! Your "left over parts" car looks better than all my regular ones!

Re: My "Left Over Parts" Buggy
In general tires in the 80's were narrower but I don't know the exact reason why RM made their wheels narrow enough to use 4wd fronts at the back. Maybe it had something to do with a narrow tire creating less rolling resistance and increasing run times...or maybe a narrower rim would balloon a normal rear tire more and give it more flex. Tire rubber was harder back then.
Anyway the car looks great but you did leave me one thing to nitpick over: those aren't the right era of Lunsford turnbuckles.

They're in there...it's just that the pics are of the chrome version. 2519 & 2523.
