Having a kid.....
Having a kid at a young age sucked (17 for me). But, there are some perks. My kid bought a house and has settlement tomorrow. Empty nester at 40.

Re: Having a kid.....
lol...congrats. At 40 I was looking for the closest parking spot to my daughters 2nd grade parent teacher conference...and learning to change diapers all over again with my 2nd granddaughter.

Re: Having a kid.....
No grandkids for me yet. Hopefully they don't put a rush on it.
I always kinda laughed about it actually. If his path turned out to be like mine, I could've been a grandfather at 36.

Re: Having a kid.....
Having kids has its ups and downs; just gotta ensure the ups far out-weigh the downs. Sometimes I look at my girls, and wonder how I got so lucky! Congrats on the nesting situation. Personally, I look forward to retirement more than an empty nest. Only 28 years to go!

Re: Having a kid.....
At 40 (last year), I was selling my condo near the beach to buy a house for my 1yo and girlfriend in the burbs. And trying to find any excuse to go hide in the basement to play with my toys.
Now, at 2.5yo, my daughter loves to help me fix things and use my "toodles" (tools). I thought a screwdriver was safe enough til she stabbed me in my kneecap trying to "fix my boo-boo". We've since bought her a more age appropriate tool set.

Re: Having a kid.....
mine are (soon) 7 and 9 1/2. I'll be 44 this year. I would probably have like to have them at a younger age, but it's still not so bad, at least they will be able to start doing some lawncare and house maintenance with me before I'm 50 hahah.
congrats on the empty nest and congrats for you son on his new house!

Congrats on your son buying a house. I'm proud of my son also. Him and his girlfriend have a place, he's got a good paying job and he hasn't hit me up for any money

Re: Having a kid.....
Thanks guys. Got him basically all settled in. I gotta say, I'm a little jealous. He has a garage and I STILL don't.
It's pretty deep and tall as well. Haven't measured it to find out it's exact dimensions, but he can easily get a 4 post lift in there when the time comes.
Good luck to him!

That's cool. How old is he, 18-19? I thought he was quite a bit younger than my kid.
Good luck to him!

Re: Having a kid.....
He's 22 now and has been fairly responsible young adult since he was young. When he would stay with me after his mom and I divorced he would have to getup with an alarm clock, make his own breakfast and catch his carpool to school. That's something some adults can't quite accomplish. One day while visiting him at his workplace It made me proud to hear his employer say good things about his performance.

I'm at the opposite end of the scale.... wifey and I have a girl who just turned 2, and we have a second on the way in September. I'm 43 and still didn't really feel prepeared to become a dad 2 years ago, but have to say I absolutely love it.

Re: Having a kid.....
That's my boat... 41 and my girl turns 3 this summer. Definite "oops", but wouldn't change a thing. I wouldn't mind another, but I think I'll have to settle on a dog... Lol

Re: Having a kid.....
Same boat here! Just turned 39 and my girl is 3. Other end of the spectrum for sure!
Congrats on your son closing on his house Scr8p! I know it was a hassle, but sounds like it all worked out. We are all moved in here too and a couple weeks deep into house projects. Lots to do here before it's all dialed in!
