New member in Washington

A co-worker of mine recently pulled is RS4 from his attic and is getting it back up and running for his son. This inspired me to get my old RC10 (mostly converted to a T) out and see what it would take to get it going again. It was originally purchased in 91-92 I believe as a RC10 CE. It was the budget kit with bushings and the older transmission. Most all the other parts were upgraded and will do my best to list below but one thing I hope to learn here is identifying what I have and what to mod from here. I basically build and ran this constantly from its purchase to maybe 94-95 and then picked it up again for a short period around 2000-2002. As I understand it battery life is much better than those days which has my hopes up to get back into the hobby. 3-4 minute run times just didn't cut it.

Here's what I think I have:

90-92 RC10 CE
upgraded to Stealth tranny in 94
Upgraded to all ball bearings
Trinity Onxy 14 t double
Novac 610HRV ESC
Airtronics AM radio(Needs replaced), receiver and steering servo
RPM T arms F&R
RPM rear hubs (I think)
RPM steering bell cranks
RPM tie rod ends
Lunsford Ti tie rods and pins
MIP CVDs (need parts)
MIP gold rear shock shafts
Rear shocks upgraded to grey bodies (not sure of specs)
10T rear shock tower
HPI 2.2 wheels w/ I believe a spacer/adapter in the rear
Front Bulkhead/shocks are original with some truck conversion body mount (I plan on swapping to a complete 10T front end)

Initial plan for getting it going:

replace radio
upgrade to modern batteries/charger
rebuild CVDs (one is missing parts)
Convert front clip to 10T
would like to locate and install narrow front wheels/tires
general cleanup/maintenance

Thanks, another aspect of this will be to correct some of the hack stuff I did when building this in my early teens. Like hacking the rear shock tower to fit a pickup body down low(er) the rear suspension is jacked up I guess for maximum ground clearance, not sure what that does for handling but sure wasn't designed that way.

Yes time to clean it up and start finishing it out.

I see from the picture you may have some rusty hardware. I'd not waste the time (considerable amount of if it was me) on it, just replace them.
If you don't have a local source for say... 4-40 size, take a look at the link. I buy from them all the time.

Like you, I also did a hack-job of converting my Optima to an on-road car, it was in almost exactly the same state as your RC10 when I first joined this forum...homemade body mounts made from brass plate and whatever I had kicking around. About the same thickness to the dust layer, too.

I believe years ago there was a thread on here somewhere showing our ugliest or most embarrassing efforts in a car. I'll have to try to find that link...

Are minster bolts better then rc screw? ....living in Canada it's hard to get good priced rc screw sets...

I'm not familiar with rc screw products. My bad for not noticing you were in Canada. Monster Bolts are out of Florida. I do know that MB's stainless steel screws are of very high quality. I've been buying from them for years, not just for RC.

Will certainly look into buying bolts from the link provided. Many of the larger bolts holding the bulkhead and/or suspension to the pan are bad. Once I get moving on this project I will post a thread in the correct forum... Thinking of a Baja Bug body though as I've never like the Chevy S10 looking original body. A VW fits my interests as I've got two VW bugs in the garage being rebuild/restored...
