I say run it. It's used already and your not going to break anything as long as your gentle with it.

Re: MIP 4wd Sassy Chassis resto
I'll see how the weather is tomorrow. It's all ready to go, I took it for a spin around the basement to make sure everything worked and it's a bit louder than I expected. I don't have a body for it, all my spares are in storage pending moving(seems to be a common theme around here)
Re: MIP 4wd Sassy Chassis resto
FYI - also as part of the sp-45 belt conversion instructions, you were suppossed to drill the steering posts in a different spot, etc., if you were going to use the supplied fiberglass bell crank connector. it looks like your chassis was drilled for the chain drive without consideration for the sp-45 kit. i have no clue why they told you to move the steering posts... I am sure things will work fine.
bet the seller would kick himself if he knew what he could have gotten.... lol

I don't really see the advantage to adding 4wheel drive to an rc10, buggy 2w is fast and strong enough in my opinion & 4wheel drive would draw more power and slow the thing down

Re: MIP 4wd Sassy Chassis resto
well for one, associated didn't have a production 4wd car in the 80's to race in the 4wd class. so, this was the solution.martinthegenius wrote:I don't really see the advantage to adding 4wheel drive to an rc10, buggy 2w is fast and strong enough in my opinion & 4wheel drive would draw more power and slow the thing down
and second, aconsola's maybe $60 2wd gold tub is now a possible $600 plus 4wd gold tub.

Ok, I REALLY got creeped out with that pic. I kept on seeing a face in the corner of my eye and it took me a while to find it.

Re: MIP 4wd Sassy Chassis resto
I took it out for a quick spin today. It was overgeared a bit and has a crappy old battery, but got going pretty good. The font end definately needs a stiffer spring and thicker oil. It is weird to be looking at a gold pan, but to have the handling of 4wd. The street has lots of dust/sand on it still from the winter, and usually I would expect the car to get all sideways in that, but the 4wd was great, just point and pullthe trigger and it goes. On the grass/dirt in the front yard, it did similarly well. I had the Baja5b out after this, and that thing was all over the place, Much harder to control, Maybe I should make that one 4wd too
I blew it off with the compressoor and it is back on the shelf. Overall it has been a fun resto/build, but I think it is a bit rare to be a regular front-yard basher.

Didnt mean to sound rude on my last comment, that is quite the sweet ride btw, nice choice. Also, anyone know of any good batteries that last 5 years or more, havent had any luck recently, they usually die after a year or 2

Re: MIP 4wd Sassy Chassis resto
I guess I am more of a hobbyist than a true collector. I do appreciate the beauty, engineering and rarity of the mip car, and am thankful to have gotten the chance to own and mess with one. While I like tinkering, restoring, building and driving these things, I try not to keep accumulating lots of vehicles.Asso_man! wrote:already for sale?![]()

The collection is generally kept under 25 between built-ups and kits, mostly out of space concerns, but also some budget limitations. If I kept every car I have restored/built, I would probably still be at 25, but would not have had the experience of owning at least double that transiently, and would not be nearly as engaged in the hobby.
Buying, restoring and re-selling(flipping?) keeps me busy without making the hobby a complete money pit.
