In your opinion: should an A stamp chassis be run, or shelved?

I thought I'd ask you guys this question, because I'm on the fence about it.

I was at a swap meet hosted by a local hobbytownUSA, and traded a twin hammers roller for an A stamp rc10. I wasn't going to, until the guy told me he was going to give it to his son to bash around the parking lots with it He had no idea what he had or why it was important.

when I looked underneath the motor and saw the A stamp, I agreed to trade him for the twin hammers, since I figured the kid was going to break it. Now I don't know what I should do with it. It's obviously been run a lot, and it has black arms on the front. but the rest of the chassis and suspension is original. I know that with the re-release, the originals have lost some of their value, but does this mean more guys are also running the originals? I'd like to run an older car again (I started in '85) but I don't know if I should pass this on to someone else and buy a re-release, or just do a resto-mod on this one and run it. I was a Losi guy, so I have to admit that I don't know as much about rc10 lineage as I should, I just knew that an A stamp chassis meant it was one of the first iterations of the rc10. either way, I think it was a fair trade since I was only asking $90 for the twin hammers.

Opinions? reasons? rolling your eyes at me one way or the other for over-thinking it?

if the bottom is scratched and not pristine, do as you please with it. Really, you could run it quite hard even if it's only slightly scratched by using some chassis tape and you wont make it worse.

If the chassis is pristine, strip the parts off it and put the chassis on ebay; with the profits, buy an old scratched up chassis to replace it, then see the advice above. Use the rest of the profit for whatever you want.

Yeah, that's kind of where I'm at with it. it has some scratches on the bottom, so it's not pristine. I may just set it up to run in a vintage class and start bugging the local track to start running one again.

For me it depends on the condition of the buggy as a whole. If the chassis has a scratch or two but the rest of buggy is in excellent condition I'd still put it on the shelf. A prime example of this would be a buggy that was built, run a couple of batteries then put away.

If it has been used hard but has some better parts then what you already have on another car I'd swap out the better parts.

Chances are if it has black front arms it was run hard enough for somebody to break it, swap out the better parts and drive the sucker like it's '85 all over again.

A stamp was around up till the stealth times. Then morphed into the b Stamp. So the Championship edition was A also. in the early 90s. I think any thing early like a true edinger with the early shocks, and retainers and such IE the hard to find parts would be a shelfer candidate. After that parts cna be had.

It's the only one I have. I've had a few over the years, but I've traded them all off. I've always been a Losi and Kyosho guy more than anything else.

As others have said. Unless the chassis is pristine and in unused condition, it's not worth preserving. I'd run it like you stole it.
